APPEARANCE: {longhair solid black tom with a tiny, nearly-absent tail and nervous stutter}
Dustfur is a somewhat small tom with a compact, somewhat stout build. His features are round and thick, flowing together in seamless lines across his body. He has large paws and tall ears that do an excellent job of steering clear of the dense coat of fur that covers the rest of him, though decorated by long, wispy whitish hairs that keep them warm. His face is filled in, with a pronounced round muzzle and short but finely angled nose bridge.
His fur is notably dense and warm, forming a subtle mane-like feature around his throat and neck, and blending his hindquarters together into a solid shape. His front limbs interrupt this only slightly, and each leg is somewhat thick for a domestic cat to fit the paws they end in. Despite his heavy coat however, he lacks fur tufts on his ears or toes. Where one would except a large, bushy tail, they would find nothing but a barely notably nub in its place- something the tom has a bit of social anxiety about whenever someone points it out or he thinks it may be getting stares.
His pelt is solid, warm-hued black, his undercoat showing subtle hints of dim greys and dark sable browns. He has no markings of any sort. His eyes are round and light gold in color
His flanks are crossed by a few scars beneath the fur, and his face has a few nicks around it.

PERSONALITY:
{briefly; Anxious, Optimistic, Timid, Self-Conscious, Romantic}
Dustfur has always been a nervous, anxious kind of cat- not really high-strung, being naturally calm, forgiving, and even fairly social, but simply always a little on edge. He can't help but feel like something, somewhere, is about to go horribly wrong, and that it might somehow be his fault or hurt someone he cares about. He knows it's often irrational, but he can't help it. Whenever it gets too bad, he sometimes chews on a poppy seed or a spare cat mint leaf if there are enough, but ultimately there isn't any helping it beyond keeping a positive outlook and trying his best to find ways to break out of that anxious spiral when it starts to happen.
Even so, he is an optimist at heart; he believes in the innate base level of "goodness" in others around him, and they'd have to do something pretty terrible to ever break that faith. He always wants to build others up and help them shine, like his friends did for him when he was younger, and has a hard time doing criticism even if asked for it constructively; he much prefers to remark on what he thought was done well than to critique what was done poorly. He has a trusting nature due to his optimism, generally hoping that others are not out to harm him and that his anxious thoughts really are as wrong as he hopes they'll be.
However, even without his anxiety he's a timid cat. He shies away from loud noises and confrontation, and when forced to encounter it tends to eventually freeze up and lock down at the worst possible moment. He feels a sense of inner shame at what he sees as his own cowardice, and earnestly believes he can never be as good of a warrior as many of his clanmates because of it. This stems from a childhood sense of embarrassment and eventual discomfort by his appearance and naiveté. Though he's usually fine about it, all it takes is one comment, especially one the speaker didn't think he could hear.
Dustfur is a romantic sort, and wants to raise a family and retire to cuddle with someone he loves until they are both called back to StarClan's hunting grounds. He tends to develop small crushes easily, and has developed a habit of dismissing his own feelings for others either because he learned they weren't reciprocated or, more often, assumed they wouldn't be.

HISTORY:
Dustkit was born to Leaftail and Shadowstep of MistClan just one moon after the horrific forest fire in the old territories. They raised him and his siblings in a sheltered manner, trying not to push the terrors of the world down upon their children and keep them happy, if ignorant. Of course, this didn't quite work- Gravelkit would grow up to be angered anytime he thought someone was talking around an issue to him, and Dustkit began to shy away from asking his parents, or anyone, anything, because they were always either angry or dismissive of his questions about all the burns and the journey.
He was apprenticed to someone at six moons old. During his apprenticeship, he formed a friendship with fellows Daisypaw and Pricklepaw. Dustpaw formed a small crush on Daisypaw(and Pricklepaw, too, really), but never worked up to acting on it.
At twelve moons old, he was named Dustfur, a simple and honest name that he could agree suited him. His brother was named Gravelhawk, and his sister Mottledflame. His friends became Daisysun and Prickleberry.
Sometime around his young warriorhood, Daisysun and Prickleberry both disappeared. He was upset, and withdrew for some time, but would eventually start to branch out to others. At some point, he also trained an apprentice named Sneezepaw, who also disappeared. Since then, he hasn't taken on another apprentice nor formed another tight-knit friend circle.
During the Blood Moon war, Dustfur fought for some time and was badly scarred. Hazy with fear and blood loss, he froze up in battle and had to be helped to escape and recover. Once he was no longer so 'shell-shocked', he did some helping work in the edges of the battle for the other wounded cats. It was around this time he developed an interest and liking for basic herbal knowledge.
Dustfur was the cat to announce to the clan that a flood was hitting their camp; however, the clan still faced heavy losses, including the leader's own mate and child as well as various warriors, apprentices, and an elder. He feels a sense of guilt for not helping more than he did.
Dustfur was with the patrol that came to help fight off a large fox on MistClan's territory; however, they were too late to save Bearstar. He broke the news to her son, Mothsnarl, who had been there fighting the creature off.
His name was considered for medicine cat apprentice, but ultimately not chosen; he feels this may be for the best, avoiding such a stressful role. Even so, he likes Daisypetals' company and enjoys helping find herbs and would volunteer to help during peak disease seasons.

Other notes; overall, Dustfur has been through and seen quite a bit in his time as a warrior; he's ready for something less... dramatic; he has enough life experience that he finally understands the lessons his parents wouldn't teach him.
