HEMLOCK;
NAME; hemlock.
AGE; twentyeight moons.
GENDER; male.
SEXUALITY; homosexual.
RANK; rogue.
CLAN; none.
PERSONALITY; hemlock is a cowardly, physically weak individual with a significant lack of fighting skills, although he pretends he has them for intimidation purposes. he tends to view himself as superior to others and often looks down his nose at the cats he refers to as 'filthy commoners'... these cats make up the majority of the population of those he has met. he tends to hide his emotions a lot to make himself less vulnerable and open to strangers, partially because he wants to keep himself anonymous and unknown, partially because he feels like the majority of cats don't deserve to know him... however, despite all of his flaws, hemlock is a highly creative and intelligent individual and a fast thinker. he often finds himself mapping out routes around territories- claimed and unclaimed- in his mind and enjoys digging underground tunnels and discovering shortcuts to different destinations within the trees. he knows a lot about quite a few subjects, which is the reason he views himself as superior to others, and has great initiative, and has excellent planning skills. but, his most knowledgeable subject is plants and herbs- having spent the majority of his life observing the flora of the unclaimed lands, he has learned a lot about recognising and naming the different species, as well as their properties and uses. of course, hemlock can use this for good, which he has done in his past, but recently he has found himself using his intelligence for the wrong reasons, whether that be simply deceiving another cat and tricking them into doing what he wants or considering lying about plant uses for more dark and sinister purposes. while discovering the plants, he found himself becoming proud of the poisonous flowering plant he was named after... furthermore, hemlock tends to feel guilt the majority of the time, although he can sometimes manage to block it out and replace it with anger that he can take out on others. this is due to the death of his brother, which he believes was his own fault and could have been prevented.
APPEARANCE; hemlock is a small, scrawny cat with little muscle, yet very strong paws and longer legs that allow him to run rather quickly when needed. his fur is very short and often messy with pieces clumped together and leaves and twigs tangled throughout which he can rarely bother to remove. colourwise, his pelt is a pale silver-y grey with very significant, dark stripes littered throughout and white markings on his chest and around his eyes, which are yellow. his nose is a dark black colour and his teeth are white and very sharp.
HISTORY; hemlock's kithood was rather unusual compared to what he has heard from those he has met throughout his life... he was born alongside one brother, hawthorn, and one sister, hollyhock, the latter of which unfortunately died at birth. not wanting to raise their two children alone without the other, the couple decided to leave the two brothers in the care of an older loner named sparrow who raised the two to adulthood and taught hemlock everything he knows. it was sparrow who would observe the plants and trees with him and teach him about them, and in return, he would teach her and his brother about the routes he had created and discovered. eventually, the three of them became quite knowledgeable and often found themselves in friendly debates with each other... this was normal to them, but many other outsiders they met tended to discriminate against them as it was more common for cats to want to be physically strong and good at battle, rather than intelligent and knowledgeable about things that seemed more like something a medicine cat would be interested in.
hemlock and hawthorn lived a happy kithood, despite the apparent 'strangeness' of it, and were generally cheerful cats... until tragedy struck and sparrow unfortunately died of old age, leaving the two brothers alone and devastated. although hemlock was never as happy as he was after the death of the cat he viewed as a mother, he managed to stay somewhat optimistic in that he still had hawthorn, who became his best friend. eventually, the two found themselves moving away from the area sparrow had raised them in hopes that it would help them to stop mourning over her, and rather find a new life together after burying her by the nest the three of them shared... the two never found a permanent home and moved their nests every night to different locations, finding that they were free to explore more now they lived alone with more freedom. they actually became rather adventurous and curious, always wondering what was around the next corner and what they were going to discover next... but of course this lead to tragedy yet again...
it was an event that changed hemlock's life forever, caused him to become cold and guilty with a self hatred that he found himself twisting and placing on others just so he wouldn't have to take the blame which he knew he deserved... it was night when it happened, and harsh leaf-bare winds rampaged the river the two had found themselves watching peacefully, until hemlock spotted what looked like a very strange coloured fish in the water that he declared the two were going to examine... afterall, why wouldn't he want to have a look at the strange animal. it was hawthorn who suggested that they both go over to it, just in case one of them fell in, and they both found themselves leaping towards two rocks poking out of the water's surface... hemlock landed safely on the rock, much to his surprise... but hawthorn wasn't so lucky and he found himself leaping straight into the coursing river. hemlock reached over to try and save him, and he managed to hold on to hawthorn for a while, but he just wasn't strong enough compared to the river and found himself unable to hold on to his brother any longer, and let go, his littermate carried away quickly by the rushing water and drowning to death.
hemlock has never forgiven himself for the incident, and returned to the river when the water was much calmer, dragging the body of hawthorn away to be buried alongside sparrow's, creating a shared grave that he visits as often as he can to pay respects to the only two cats he ever loved.
