i don't know if they're supposed to have modern day equipment like pregnancy tests but oh well
Cloud's river-blue eyes were widened with mixed emotions as she washed her hands and walked out of the bathroom, her hand shaking as she held it. The test. The pregnancy test. A small white test that determined the rest of her future, the rest of her life, in this very moment. Should she tell him? Would he be happy? How would he react? What if he wanted her to get an abortion? What if he didn't? What if she had a miscarriage? What if she died in labor? The list went on and on of what she could worry about, so she just flopped down on the worn couch, staring intently on a specifically dirty patch on the carpet.
What she called into the kitchen practically rolled off her tongue without her knowing had her friend/lover/fwb Coyote not replied back. "Coyote?" she called weakly, thankful that the kitchen was close enough for him to hear her.
Coyote walked into the living room, drying his hands on a gray dish towel. "Yeah?" he asked softly, taking a step closer. His eyebrows furrowed together at Cloud's worried expression.
Biting her lip now, Cloud looked up at Coyote with her innocent, pure eyes. She took the positive pregnancy test out from behind her back, holding it up for him to see. "I'm..." her breath caught in her throat. Looking away, tears burned at her eyes, and she batted her eyelashes in hopes they would go away.
"You're pregnant." Coyote said quietly, bringing Cloud's gaze back to him. "Oh my god, Cloud, this is amazing!" he said, louder this time. He set the test down on the coffee table and picked Cloud up, hugging her as tight as he dared. "How can you be sad about this? We're going to be a family!" His words were choppy as tears formed at the corners of his eyes.
This was not what Cloud had expected from him. "Wait.. really? You aren't mad?" she asked him, but didn't bother waiting for a reply before she hugged him back, grinning. Sure, they were young. Sure, they were inexperienced. But they had each other, and that was all they needed, right? With enough love, they could become amazing parents.
"Of course not. Why would I be mad?" Coyote's gaze darkened as he realized something. "You wanted to have children, right?" he asked, cupping Cloud's face in his hands so she had to look him in the eyes. "Right?" he asked, firmer this time.
Cloud bit at the inside of her lip before responding. "Yes.. I mean, well, no, but yes. My answer is yes. I wanted children." she stuttered as she spoke, unsure of what to say. She originally wanted to wait until she was no longer young and naive, but after she met Coyote it was like she couldn't wait. Ever since, she hadn't really thought too much about it, but now she had to think about it. It had happened and she couldn't do anything ethically and morally correct to stop it.
"As did I." he said, kissing Cloud's forehead. He would've pressed further on the topic, but he didn't want her to cry as she was at a rather unstable moment right now. So, instead, he sat down on the couch with Cloud still in his embrace, running his fingers through her soft waves of platinum blonde hair in a comforting gesture. Eventually, Cloud fell asleep leaned against his shoulder, her hand which had clutched his chest for support just minutes prior now loose at her side.
