In a small house at the edge of a town lived two twins by the named of Deerpaw and Fawnpaw. It was the middle of December just days away from Christmas. That morning Fawnpaw woke up early and ran to her window to see if it had snowed. For even though it was December they haven't gotten more than an inch of snow yet. They were supposed to get several inches the night before and to continue to get at least another foot today. The window was frosted over and Fawnpaw couldn't see a thing. After wiping the frost away with her hand she let out a gasp. The ground outside was completely covered in snow, and all the tree's had a blanket of snow covering their branches. "DEEEEERPAW!" Fawnpaw screamed as she ran to her brother's room across the hall. "Deerpaw we got snow come on get up and let's go play." Without waiting for a reply she ran out just as quickly as she had run in. She closed her bedroom door and quickly got dressed in a Christmas sweater, nice warm sweatpants, and then donned her winter boots, jacket, scarf, and gloves. Once dressed she headed back to her brother's room and was about to burst in when the door flew open.
"What you waiting for slowpoke come on," cried Deerpaw and ran past his sister wearing his own winter clothing. As he ran downstairs he called out to their mom. Doetail, Fawnpaw and I are headed out to play." As he ran for the front door he could hear his mothers reply Ok but I want you back in to check on me in one hour. Don't think I won't come and get you if you do... Deerpaw didn't hear the rest for he had already darted outside.
Fawnpaw followed just as quickly but she stopped to give her mom a quick hug. "Don't worry I'll make sure we come in I promise." With that, she too followed her brother only to get a face full of snow as she emerged outside. Coughing and spluttering she wiped the snow from her face. "Oh is that how you want this to go Deerpaw?" She charged after him grabbing a handful of snow as she went and stuffed it down the back of her brother's shirt before taking off laughing. "That will show you for throwing a snowball at your sister."
For the next hour, the two siblings had a snowball fight that lasted only fifteen minutes before Deerpaw called mercy and begged forgiveness for throwing the first snowball. After that, the two made some snow angels then went on to build a Snowman. "We should make a whole snowman family Deerpaw." Fawnpaw bent to grab some more snow to pat on the base to make it round when her alarm went off. "Time to go in Deerpaw I promised mom." Besides she was starting to get hungry. They hadn't had breakfast yet.
Deerpaw was working on the midsection of their first snowman. He nodded his head in agreement with his sister's suggestion. To busy and into his work to give her a reply. When the alarm went off causing him to groan. "Come on I don't want to go in," he wined but followed his sister inside anyway. As they entered their house Deerpaw could smell and hear bacon being cooked. That's when he realized just how hungry he was.
The two siblings quickly stripped their winter stuff off before running into the kitchen. "What's for breakfast," they both asked at the same time. Jinx," cried Deerpaw "you owe me hot cocoa with marshmallows." Doetail chuckled at her children's voices. "Well, I have made you some homemade blueberry pancakes with some homemade hashbrowns and bacon. Now go wash your hands and by the time you get back I'll have breakfast ready for you." Doetail needn't tell her children twice. They both quickly ran for the bathroom. Deerpaw pushed his sister out of the way so he could get to the sink first only to get bushed himself when he was about to rinse the soap off his hands. "Hey, I was here first, wait your turn Fawnpaw."
"You're only first because you pushed me out in the hall now move over, we should both be able to wash our hands at the same time."
Once the two had washed their hands they both ran back to the kitchen and sat down at the table to plates full of pancakes, bacon, and hashbrowns. Deerpaw grabbed four pancakes a huge handful of bacon and skipped the hashbrowns completely before dumping syrup all over everything. Fawnpaw, on the other hand, grabbed two pancakes, four strips of bacon and a large scoop of hashbrowns. She buttered the pancakes and put a light amount of syrup on her pancakes. Once both had, had all they could eat they thanked their mom and donned their winter clothes once more before heading back outside to finish their snowman family.
As Fawnpaw stepped outside she let out a loud squeal of delight when she saw it had begun to snow again. She stopped in her tracks spread her arms out wide and began to spin in circles. "I LOVE SNOW," she cried out loud. She spun and she danced and she laughed for the next several minutes just enjoying the feeling of snow slowly and gently landing on her. Some landed on her eyelashes which she had to blink away. At one point she ran around trying to catch snowflakes in her mouth licking her lips every time she managed to catch one.
While Fawnpaw was doing that Deerpaw had gone back to work on the snowman family. Once the midsection was a fairly good size he hefted it up with a grunt and put it on top of the base section and began to round it and make sure it wouldn't fall off the base. Eventually, Fawnpaw joined him and together they spent their day building snowmen and tunnels in the snow that led all over the place. They could go from their front door to the trampoline in the backyard without ever emerging from their tunnels once. But as all things must their fun came to an end much too soon. As the sun began to set their mother called them in for the night promising them another fun day tomorrow.
