Adventure.
It was a word tossed around in the nursery from time to time; it denoted an amazing series of events, one that sprawled into legend and stars or into the murmured nursery tales told to kittens in the whispering dusk of evening. It wasn't a term that Sootkit thought herself capable of expressing, nor perhaps experiencing. Yet on the horizon, it was said an adventure lie ahead; apprenticeship.
Honestly? She didn't feel as excited as many of her peers. Life as it was seemed more or less fine; it wasn't great, but she had food and the ability to do as she pleased, and what else was there to it than that? The kitten wasn't a picky person, and though she was certainly interested in what waited beyond the confines of camp, she wasn't certain if that curiosity outweighed the comfort of her life as it was. Maybe it did, maybe it didn't; the gap-toothed tortie was still trying to figure that out for herself. One of the first steps in doing so seemed to be slipping away from the nursery to sniff around the edges of camp.
It wasn't that she was incapable of being in the nursery, but she had a tendency to get into quarrels with her denmates, and it was honestly easier to slip away and entertain herself than it was to try and get along. While she wasn't yet consciously aware of the effect of her presence, she knew enough to feel uneasy when trying to fit in with the others in the nursery. Best to keep to herself and allow the families to do whatever they did; she was fine being by herself, sniffing the edge of her little, familiar world. Besides, being alone and exploring the boundaries of her reality helped her to try and determine what was most important to her. Curiosity? Or the familiar?
The longer she wondered, the more she felt herself lean towards the former.
