The heat was setting in, which was usual for Greenleaf. It almost felt like it was coming in waves, the sun blistering down onto MothClan territory. Any cat with long fur was sure to be suffering in the sunlight. Granted, other cats were sure to be at risk for overheating in the relentless blast of heat, but perhaps not as much.
Ocelotjaw was one of these cats.
Even though his fur was short and course, prickly like burrweed, the tom could feel the rays of sun beat down on his spotted lilac pelt. It was days like this when the tom missed Leafbare. He grumbled under his breath, cursing the fact that he had to go on a mousebrained patrol by himself. By the thundertrail, no less. The rusting metal track went on for many treelengths, going further than Ocelotjaw could see. The sun glistened off the remaining areas that shined. Where did it go? Who knows, who cares? It was no business to a clan cat. All that one needed to know was to avoid the biggest monster any cat had ever seen. It shook the earth as it went by, hitting anything in its path. It was sudden death for any of those who dared to stand on the trail as it made its way to its destination.
The thing about MothClan is that there was barely any shade on the territory. It was mostly open sky. So patrols like this were a nightmare during the warmer months. Ocelotjaw padded down alongside the thundertrail, brows furrowed as he made his way along the path, keeping an eye out for trespassers. Though at this point in time, he could care less. He was out on his own with no one to back him up, so how effective would he really be if there were some rouges to approach him? Plus, he felt as if he had nothing to protect in this clan anyway. He resented his new clan, his loyalty still belonging to MistClan. He then began to think of how it would be if he had accepted the help from his other clanmates on this patrol. Ocelotjaw was known for his sharp tongue and awful temper, often lashing out at others for no reason. StarClan forbid he went on patrol with another cat. A verbal conflict would surely have arisen. The tom shrugged off the thought, his main concern at the moment being to find an escape from the brutal sunlight.
Ahead, Ocelotjaw spotted a tree - the only tree near the thundertrail. It was a large oak, its branches extended foxlengths beyond the trunk, its leaves creating a shaded oasis from the sun. "Thank StarClan..." the tom grumbled, ready to spend a few moments to cool off. He wanted nothing more than to get out of the sun and rest, and maybe even spend the time to clean his fur. Surely Eveningstar would understand if he came back a little later. As the warrior approached the tree, he eyed a fork in the branch. It was pretty low - an apprentice would be able to easily make the jump. It was the perfect size for laying on, too. With that though, Ocelotjaw hopped up, stretching out in the shaded crevice. He closed his eyes and relished the relief of the coolness on his fur.
