What Are the Hunger Games?
"The Hunger Games is a 2008 dystopian novel by the American writer Suzanne Collins. It is written in the voice of 16-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives in the future, post-apocalyptic nation of Panem in North America. The Capitol, a highly advanced metropolis, exercises political control over the rest of the nation. The Hunger Games is an annual event in which one boy and one girl aged 12–18 from each of the twelve districts surrounding the Capitol are selected by lottery to compete in a televised Battle royale to the death." (Wikipedia)
Now, who here doesn't like a good Battle Royale - the chance were our favorite characters are paced against one another for guts and glory - emphasis on the guts. For this lovely summer solstice, I decided to channel my inner Capitol and sponsor Carried Home's very own Hunger Games!
Wait...What? How does this work?
First of all, like our random events, I as game master am making things as random as possible. Thanks to this site, the entire game will be plugged into a random generator - this means deaths, special events, dismemberment - it's out of my hands. I am placing it directly into the computer's control.
Those interested in entering will have to pick two of their own Carried Home Characters - don't worry, the death and psychological trauma you are about to endure starts and ends on this thread. In the name of Hunger Games, I do ask that you submit 1 male (tom) and 1 female (she-cat) per district (your username). So for example, you're post may be something like the following:
I (Broadwaykat), nominate Dustytuft and Bloompaw to participate in the Hunger Games.
It will be displayed in the Placekeeper (post below) as follows:
District 1: Broadwaykat - Tributes Dustytuft (f) and Bloompaw (m).
Of course, if you do not have any characters of a particular gender, you are able to enter whomever you'd like - just in the spirit of the series I thought the gender dynamics would be interesting.
How Long Will This Last?
I am hoping to run at least four rounds for this game - so bookmark if you think of returning. The timeline will be as follows:
July 1 - July 7: Applications for 1st Round of the Game remains open for this period.
July 8: The 1st Round is run.
July 8 - 14: Applications for the 2nd Round of the Game remains open for this period.
July 15: The 2nd Round is run.
July 15- 21: Applications for the 3rd Round of the Game remains open for this period.
July 22: The 3rd Round is run.
July 22 - July 28: Applications for the 4th and Final Round of the Games remains open for this period.
August 29: The 4th and Final Round is run.
What Do I Win?
If you win a round, you get the chance to play again - glory for your character and 500 feathers! Plus, you have the ability to bring them BACK for the Final Round if you so choose. If you're fond of doing math, that's FOUR chances for a single player to win.
And if (when) you die in the game?
No problem - next round, you can apply again with different characters!
**BONUS**
For those lucky three whose character survives the first three rounds, if they so choose, will have the option of returning their character once again to the arena. If they win for a SECOND time (you lucky devils you) I am offering an ADDITIONAL prize of your choice: an additional 500 feathers and the choice of an item from the shops equal to or lower than 1000 feathers. That's an additional prize for your lonesome selves!
If a different character wins - then it's a simple 500 feather prize.
So, are you ready to play? There's only one thing left to say:
