As MistClan came down into the clearing, HeronStar felt a pang of worry. Where was SableStar? Or Dogear? Could it be that both of them had taken ill? Or worse...
Are things really getting that bad?
She knew about the issues with the other two clans now, but if MistClan, the one clan that she did not think was going through crisis, had lost a leader and a deputy, then things were really much worse than she had thought.
"Greetings Heronstar, Eveningstar, Screechstar. Sablestar and Dogear decided to stay back at camp and keep things running smoothly. They chose me to take their place tonight. I hope that won't cause any problems..."
The IvyClan leader smiled, a wave of relief washing over her. So they were okay. That was all that mattered.
"Of course it won't," she mewed, glancing at the other leaders. Perhaps it was not her right to speak for them, but at this point, she did not care. "We are glad that you have joined us, and that all is well with SableStar."
With that, she stood, ready to begin the gathering.
"I suppose I shall begin, as I feel I may have the least...exciting news. IvyClan has been doing well, and we are hoping to continue this way into leaf-fall. This moon we have been blessed to have both Twigpaw and Pepperpaw become apprentices, and Ospreyheart and Appleblossom become warriors." It felt awkward, speaking of new ranks when she knew that the other clans would be sharing news of fire and disease. But still, as a leader it was her job to explain the goings-on of her clan, even if they were just rank changes. "I would also like to have it known that IvyClan is ready and willing to offer aid in these trying times."
Meanwhile, Sparrowpaw had noticed the haggard look of the cats around her. Even those who seemed healthy had a tired, haunted look about them.
"They're Twoleg beetles!"
Well, maybe not everybody was tired. Sparrowpaw turned her attention back to the white cat beside her, and the shiny 'beetles' he had brought with him.
"Wow! They are...interesting," she mewed. Hesitantly, she stuck out a paw, and touched the back of one shiny object. It did not do anything, as she had suspected. "You've had these since you were a kit?"
