It was time for a new deputy.
For new warriors.
For letting go of the ones that left.
She was ready, and Ivyclan was ready.
Her form was lean, from days of searching for kits that didn't want to be found and from sleepless nights of glowing yellow eyes watching the clan, but Owlstar was still the quintessence of elegance as she made the graceful leap up to her lovely alcove in the stone. She cleared her throat, catching the attention of the few warriors that lingered in the clearing, and shouted out the call that had become so familiar each and every moon.
"May all cats old enough to climb the rock face gather here under the Highledge for a clan meeting!" Her voice was loud and proud, as befit the elegant leader. Soon, cats began to arrive below her, and she lifted her head up high and addressed her clanmates.
"To begin, I have a few announcements. Scorchpaw, Starlingpaw, and Wolfclaw have run off, betraying their family and their clan, and have refused thus to come home. As such, they will be treated as we do any outsiders. If any of them are seen on clan territory, I expect them to be chased off like we do any rogues, loners, or rival clan cats." She spoke, her tone cold and clipped. She let it sink in for a moment, before she moved on to her next point of the day.
"It is also time for an new deputy of Ivyclan. It was a difficult decision, as we have many reliable and skilled warriors, but I have come to a conclusion. Roseblaze, you will be the new deputy of the clan. Your loyalty and love for your clanmates has been proven over and over. Despite your youth, I believe that you will be an excellent choice for the future. Serve your clan well, and stay true." She hummed, her voice melting into the warmth that usually fit Owlstar. Cheers echoed in her ears, and she smiled slightly as her warriors praised the new deputy of the clan. "I give brief thanks to Blackheart, who was a great help in stepping up and taking care of deputy duties while Wolfclaw was missing. Roseblaze, you can learn a lot from him, but be the kind of leader that you feel in your heart."
"But alas, we are not yet finished! There are two apprentices, that have proven ready to become warriors of the clan! Fallenpaw, Dapplepaw, come forward." She paused a moment, waiting for the excited little 'paws to come up to the lower ledge just below her. Looking down upon them with golden eyes, she addressed Fallenpaw first.
"Fallenpaw, you've proven through your training that you're ready to become a warrior of Ivyclan. Despite being a bit snappy," Her humor showed in the twitch of her whiskers. "You're loyal to your clanmates, and have a certain fire around your friends. For this, I name you Fallenspark. Continue to shine in this clan."
She turned to Dapplepaw next, ears pricking forward as she spoke to the young apprentice.
"Dapplepaw, you are a young apprentice that follows her heart rather than her head. Though not every situation will call for it, I truly believe that you'll be a warrior that your clanmates will be glad to have by their sides in battle. I name you Dapplefur, for your beautiful pelt that is perfect for hiding in the mottled undergrowth of our forest. Use this to your advantage."
And with that, Owlstar sat back, raising her head to the stars, as the clan shouted the warrior's new names to the sky.
