Bearstar slipping back into the camp, flicking water from her tail-tip and pollen from her whiskers. New-Leaf was weaving through the forest, and a fine layer of yellow dust had begun to cover the cave entrance already. The leader had stepped out for some personal time, the morning duties already handled, and admittedly she had simply wanted to enjoy the warmth of the sun. She couldn't very well sunbathe all day though, so she headed for the stone perch- there were cats to recognize this moon. "May all cats old enough to cross the waterfall gather for a clan meeting!"
Waiting for the clan to assemble, she spoke as soon as the last cat settled into the crowd. "It has been a chaotic moon; I'm sure some of us are still shaken over Shadespirit's betrayal," she gave a brief, sympathetic glance to Daisypaw, " I myself still find it hard to believe what happened. However, the clan does not stop just because of one rotten egg in the nest. The rest of our young cats have done very well. And now, some of them are ready to become warriors at last."
She beckoned a vividly colored she-cat with large ears forward. "Foxpaw, you and your fellow apprentices have witnessed harsh truths in life too young. Yet, you continue on. You have a wild spirit, Foxpaw, and for it you will be known as Foxflight."
Next, the mottled grey-brown cat sitting nearby. "You have been an impressively humble and friendly cat. Beneath your shyness you hide a valuable friend and a fine young warrior- you have earned the name Bramblefur."
Bearstar waved the long-tailed apprentice up with a hint of amusement. "Ah, Saltpaw. I have heard and seen of your smug nature; however, I have also seen that your self-confidence is not entirely misplaced. May your strengths never fail you as a warrior- I think the name Saltweed suits someone as stubborn yet skilled as you."
The leader moved on to a pale rosetta tabby. "Snowpaw, your friendly and kind nature is well-known in the clan, nearly as distinctive as your spotted coat. Your name will be Snowpoppy, after the delicate but persistent flowers blooming around us."
The amused tone returned to the leader's voice, levelled by a hint of sternness, as she addressed the black-furred apprentice next. "A certain ire has tinged your apprenticeship, but you have proven you know what you're doing, and your most potent venom is aimed only at traitors. Scorpionpaw, you will now be known as Scorpionfang."
Remarking silently to herself on the number of apprentices- and with a hint of trepidation at how many would be graduating in a few seasons- she moved on to a tabby and white she-cat. "Your mood is hard to gauge, as are your aspirations, Lilypaw, but I do know that you are very patient. For that, you will be named Lilycloud."
At last, she addressed the final apprentice. "Ah, Sootpaw. I have looked forward to seeing you become a warrior since the clans came here, but I never imagined I would have the honor of naming you. I am in awe of how well you've done to overcome your own struggles and help others in theirs. You have a good heart, and it is only suiting that you be named after it- you are now Sootheart." Bearstar purred with a mix of pride and kindness; she was not a relative of the white tom, but she had kept an eye on him through his training. She joined in with an almost motherly happiness as the clan greeted its new warriors, and waited until they quieted a little to wave her tail for silence.
"Finally, we have two kits ready to take up some of the empty nests that will be left in the apprentice's den over the next few moons. Stagkit, Turtlekit, come forward. You will be known as Stagpaw and Turtlepaw from now until you earn your names, and your mentors will be Quailfur and Lilysting, respectively." Bearstar nodded at the two warriors to summon them forward to greet the new apprentices, before crouching to leap down. "The meeting is over, but I am available should anyone need me."
