After recent staff discussion on how best to represent our rules on what is an is not allowed in terms of writing certain things, the FAQ has been updated with the following:
Tl;dr: we want you to be able to write what you want, but please make sure you don't treat serious issues in a way that I can only sum up as "lol so quirky UwU XD". In addition, please do consider that there are people as young as 13 on this site, as well as people who may be sensitive to thing such as mental health issues and/or gore - so you would be allowed, say, suicidal or hideously disfigured cats, but please don't go into too much vivid detail about such things while writing them.
As always, if you're unsure about whether something would be allowed or not, either PM KingHarry or ask for help in the discord! We would rather you asked us if you wanted to write something in particular than just threw away the idea because you were unsure about it.
"Can my character be disabled (psychologically and/or physically)? How about trans?
We allow both of these things on Carried Home, however we ask that you are respectful about what you are writing.
A good rule of thumb is the ask how the issue affects your character. For example, consider the culture that warriors grow up in. Being a warrior is seen as the ultimate goal, and every part of their life is about their clan and providing for them. Now consider how a cat would feel if he, for example, was missing a leg and therefore could not be the perfect, strong warrior that others want to be. How does this affect them? If they are fine with it, why?
As for trans cats, consider that the clans would not actually have a concept of being transgender. Many cats would likely find it strange, and possibly not even accept it. Also consider that there is no way to lessen gender dysphoria in the warriors world. A trans warrior could be asked to be called by a different pronoun, but they could not actually change their body. At this moment, trans characters are not allowed to biologically have children, but they would be allowed to adopt.
This is a good writing habit for any character trait, but we bring it up here simply because we want to reduce the risk of anybody feeling upset because they feel an issue personal to them is being treated insensitively."
