Another day and another moon had gone, the heat of summer on full blast. It was honestly a good season for kits to be born. He had noted the lack of kitting around the tribe, or at least when he was rarely out and about, did he see any kits or pregnant mollies. Fresh caught-prey was plentiful but it was discouraged to take more than that was offered. The tom had decided to go and get a bite before the ceremonies were announced. Ah, yes, ceremonies. He knew that to-bes were to be named their roles and kits to begin their training. Walking over to the caught-prey pile, he plucked the thinnest of mice. It was scrawny but how would one have it go to waste?? He quickly ate the small rodent, before taking his place in the middle of the ruins.
"CATS OLD AND YOUNG, FAST AND SLOW, FIT OR NAH...Gather to my space, for the ceremonies of young cats will be unveiled. But I have an announcement to make. A dreadful series of unhappy endings of come about. We have lost a couple of young cats..Cats that would have been a loving couple of home-guards..I pray to our ancestors that they have found their roles fitting in the Tribe of Endless Hunting. The wind has called them by name, with numerous feathers belonging to hawks. Please, be wary when going out, as it seems the hawk population has gained new members. I warn those that venture out, beware those that fly. We do not need any more to fall to those dangerous talons. Moth that Lands on Oak and Heron that Snaps at Fish, we welcome you to walk among us, from the stars and the sun, the moon and the clouds, the leaves, the bark and the roots that bind this ruin our home, we wish you great happiness, and for your paw steps to be found among the tribe as one, as a whole, for our ancestors welcome you with morning purrs of delight. " His deep tone as full of sorrow, the emotion crisping his words like ice. Why did more have to fall, even yet to those darned birds of prey?! But it was the way of their Ancestors, calling those poor young cats back to their starry clan above.
"A time of sadness has passed..Yet we have more to welcome their roles, to become like the roots of our Ancestor's tree, that first started this tribe." His icy tone changed to a more neutral standing one.
"We have young kits..Grown to finally take on their duties..But yet must be trained. Moss that Grows on Trees, I welcome you to your future duty has a prey hunter, your mentor will be Red Dawn Over Sharp Mountain. Honor your mentor and they will honor you. Mountain will bring you the compassion you need in order to bring back prey for those in need. Night Which Stains the Sky, I welcome you to your duty of becoming a home-guard. Constant vigilance is always the key. Dusk that Brings the Cold will be your mentor. Her sternness will show you the way unlike the broken path of bad behaviors. Listen to her well or fear the coldness that follows her." He eyed the mentioned kits and their newly appointed mentors. They were all good cats, but work was work and training came first. He nodded to the two mentors.
"It has also come to my knowledge, that we are to welcome our older To-Bes into their rightful roles of the tribe. Please step forward."
Those yellow eyes went to the nine young cats, ready to be named their roles. "We have three new Home-Guards to welcome. Shadow that Creeps Stealthily, Flight of Restless Sparrow, and Coyote That Hunts at Dawn. You have finished your training and are ready to join those among your role, to protect our prey-hunters and our tribe with your lives. I, your tribe and our ancestors welcome and honor you to your new-found roles in which you have trained for. Congratulations.
I would also like to mention, we have six new prey-hunters, ready to catch those that fly, swim, crawl and run. Snake That Strikes Swiftly, Fish That Cuts the Water, Croak of Lonely Frog, Ruby that Glistens Brightly, Spider Legs on Speckled Petals, and Fog That Fills the Forest. I, your tribe, and our ancestors welcome you to your new role. We wish that you stay close to our newly appointed home-guards and also our current home-guards and prey-hunters, for our world is not a pleasant one. Take care as you hunt, for some of those that we hunt, will turn and return the claws back. I warn you, as I warn all, be aware of your surroundings. For even roots, sometimes the unlikely happens at a paw swipe."
After he finished, he nodded to the newly appointed prey-hunters and to their mentors, he made a small comment. "Also, thank your ancestors for your mentors, for they will be your guides to the way we do our duties. This has been our ranking up ceremonies, enjoy your day. "
