He knew he had to get over this fear of the unknown. He knew he did. In an attempt to prove to himself that he was safe here, that there was nothing to fear in their new territory, Shadowpaw decided to take a short walk outside of the camp by himself. At first, he had no problems; he knew the areas near to camp, plus he had been shown around most of the territory by either by Owlstar or Barkfur.
It wasn’t until he had managed to find himself in the deeper, thicker part of the woods that Shadowpaw began to realize that this was a terrible idea. For such a smart cat, he really could be a mousebrain sometimes. The thick roof of leaves over his head blocking out much of the sunlight throws off Shadowpaw’s sense of time, and after only a short while of exploring here, Shadowpaw decides that enough is enough and that he should head back to camp. He turns back the way he had come… but doesn’t look familiar. The small apprentice casts a quick look around but… nothing looks familiar. Shadowpaw doesn’t get lost often, but the lack of familiarity with this part of IvyClan territory has confused the young cat. He no longer knows the way home.
Shadowpaw’s first impulse is, of course, to panic; however, Shadow is very adept at not panicking in panic-worthy situations. No, his first reaction is to instead continue looking around in hopes of finding some clue that will guide him back. No clue presents itself; a large bird crows overhead instead, causing the jumpy apprentice to crouch in terror. He runs to a nearby tree for safety, crouching down among the tree’s thick roots and against the sturdy trunk. He squeezes his eyes shut as he tries hard not to let the all-too familiar feeling of despair overwhelm him. He’s probably not even all that far from camp, but he’s internally freaking out and trying not to cry. The poor, derpy thing.
I didn't think I walked that far... but maybe clan territory isn't as big as I thought. Maybe it always small, and it just seemed that way because I was a kitten. Maybe I went the wrong direction, and the camp isn't that far from the edge of clan territory. As the territories are rather new, the scent of IvyClan isn't likely as strong as it would have been in the old territories. Either way, Shadowpaw is too busy with what his eyes are telling him, that he's in an unfamiliar forest that he hasn't seen before, to worry about pretty much anything else. Except for the sounds of birds and the wind rattling the branches of the trees, and both of those sounds are just freaking him out more.
