Deerpaw sat in the center of the learing his tail lay around his paws, his ears flat to his head as he stared at the ground as he struggled to hold in the tears that he could feel welling up behind his eyes. It was the middle of leaf-bare and his sister was dead. They never found her body but there was no way she could survive out in that blizzard. Some fox would probably find her and destroy her body. He had to choke back a sob at the thought. It was all his fault, he was the one who told Fawnpaw they should go out and try to find some extra prey for the clan. As they had been out a storm had kicked up. He had called back for Fawnpaw to follow him as he led the way back to camp. The snow coming down so thick he could barely see his whiskers. When he had finally made it back to camp he turned to tell his sister and she was no where to be seen. He called her name but all he could hear was the wind howling in his ears. He had been about to go out to find her when his mentor came out and asked him where Fawnpaw was. "I don't know, she was right behind me. I have to find her," he turned and was about to dart away but his mentor grabbed him by the tail.
"You can't go out there, then both you and Fawnpaw will be lost and then where would we be? We'll send out a patrol for your sister as soon as the storm dies down," Willowfur yowled over the wind.
Deerpaw had no choice but to agree and followed Willowfur into camp and then into the apprentices den for shelter. The storm had raged on all day and night, the next morning when they had woken the sky was clear and several patrols were sent out to find Fawnpaw. They searched all over the territory for any trace of her scent but nothing. The snow and the cold had tore away any scent that might have led them to Fawnpaw. For three days they continued searching for her but they finally were forced to give up and it was declared that Fawnpaw was dead and it was all Deerpaws fault. Even though everyone said it wasn't his fault it was and he would forever regret taking his sister out that day. Was she in Starclan right now with their mother looking down at him? Did she hate him for leaving him behind? Would his mom hate him for not taking better care of Fawnpaw? He would never know until the day he joined Starclan as well.
