Bearstar sauntered out of her den, hopping up the stone wall to the shallow outcrop. With a threat of war on the way, she couldn't waste any time in training the current kits of the clan- they had to be ready. Perhaps even tomorrow. "May all cats old enough to cross the waterfall gather here for a clan meeting!" Her tail swung around to cover her paws as she sniffed at the gathered cats. There were a few new scents in there.
"Before we name any of our younger cats, you've likely noticed the strange cats who have joined us. Dogear's family has found him, and decided to join him here with us. Toffee, Honey, and Robin- you have chosen to become one of us, and now you will receive the names of a clan cat. Honey, you will be Honeywing, as you seem to have a more gentle personality matching your original name. Robin, you are now Robinheart; while you carry the strength and confidence of a warrior, you have a kindness about you. And Toffee-" Bearstar blinked in surprise when, before she could name the red colorpoint, her voice cut through.
"Actually, Bearstar- I was thinking, I'd like to keep my name. It's never been a source of shame for me, and I don't think it will start being one just because I live somewhere new. I've always been Toffee," she seemed nervous at first, as if she wasn't sure she should've spoken up in the middle of the meeting, but she grew more confident as she spoke until she finished. Bearstar eyed the she-cat slowly, before nodding ever so slightly.
"Very well, Toffee. You will keep your name as it is and always has been," she murmured, squinting as she regained track on the next part of the meeting. "With that settled, it's finally time to acknowledge the young born of MistClan."
She motioned with her tail towards the cream-colored tom. "Wingpaw, due to your absence and the sorry state in which you returned, you will continue your training for a little longer. I cannot in good conscience make you a warrior at this time."
"You, however, will be joining the warriors, Flamepaw," she turned to look at a different ginger cat, "The cats involved in raising you have done well- though you are not born of the clans, you work just as hard as one of us, if not sometimes harder. You will be known as Flametail, and our younger clanmates will know they can follow you on the path we now take."
"And now, we have quite a few apprentices to name tonight. Let's begin with the smaller litter- Foxkit and Thistlekit! Come up, and accept your new names and duties as Foxpaw and Thistlepaw. Foxpaw, you will be mentored by Swiftshadow, whose quiet but resolute nature may serve to continue your parents' teachings while hopefully allowing you to enjoy your youth while you have it. Thistlepaw, your mentor will be Dewshine, who I hope will teach you to not only accept when you've failed, but build on it and improve."
"Moving on- Saltkit and Brindlekit, you will train as Saltpaw and Brindlepaw. Saltpaw, you are an abrasive one, and lonesome- but I think Silversplash will compliment that surprisingly well. Brindlepaw, I assign Ringtail to you- he has an enthusiasm I hope you might glean something from."
"Lastly- Birchkit, Cottonkit, Sedgekit, Currantkit, and Orchidkit!"
"Birchkit, I admire your spirit, but I hope that as Birchpaw you will learn to temper your rougher edges under Yellowfern."
"Cottonkit... you will be my apprentice, and the first I have taken since I have become leader. I will be very interested in watching you develop, Cottonpaw."
"Sedgekit, your patience and maturity is outstanding for one so young, but perhaps you need a break at times. Lilycloud might help you keep your spirits up as you and your siblings begin your trainin as Sedgepaw."
"Currantkit, you've fallen into the shadows of your siblings as quirkier stories about them come out. Though I don't encourage you to end up in rumors, I would like to see you open up a little- and I think Meteorfall may be a good choice in helping you there, Currantpaw."
"And Orchidkit- quite the troublemaker, I hear. Someone who can keep their wits about them while they train you is in order- Saltweed may be who you need. She can be harsh, but she is one of the best fighters in our ranks today."
"That is all for this meeting; Cottonpaw, I will see you tomorrow morning for your first day of training."
