Jaypaw opened her green gaze, sunlight streaming into the IvyClan apprentice den. She. Featherpaw, and Ferretpaw were the only apprentices left and she was disappointed to see that her denmates were gone.
She sighed, arching back in a stretch as she stood. She left the den, looking around before deciding to head out to hunt, telling her mentor. She left, heading to the forest. While there, she ran into a hunting patrol that was returning with prey in their mouths. She purred in recognition continuing her hunt. She didn’t stray too far from the camp, as there was a badger about the place. She knew better than to that.
She was unable to catch even a whiff of prey, grunting to head home when yowls rang out. She raced to the camp, shocked to find a cat who was on the ground, stomach heaving. It was her own sister, Bramblestorm!
“What happened?” She exclaimed, shoving her way to the front with her mother and father.
“I don’t know! We were eating and all of a sudden she started having trouble breathing and her stomach ached!” Stormflower, her mother, wailed. Jaypaw furrowed her brows in concern before gasping as Bramblestorm lay still, dead.
“She’s dead.” Came Owleyes’ saddened voice. Greyears seemed indifferent and Jaypaw’s hackles raised.
“What freshkill did she eat?” Jaypaw whispered, ridden with grief. Ferretpaw shuffled forward, a glint in his eyes she didn’t like.
“She ate the freshkill you caught yesterday.” He muttered, exposing the sparrow.
“It was healthy when I caught it though!” Jaypaw exclaimed. She looked around, Featherpaw dropping her gaze.
“Then somebody must’ve poisoned it… and you were the only one around it.” Which was a lie, but the clan, struck with grief and disbelief turned on her.
“Exile her!” Some cat yowled.
“I would never kill my own sister!” Jaypaw argued, fear riding her body.
“Enough.” The leader meowed, stepping forward. “Jaypaw, until you can prove your innocence, you are now a prisoner of IvyClan.”
Jaypaw’s jaw dropped in disbelief.

Being a prisoner of the clan wasn’t so bad. Jaypaw still got talked to and could perform her in camp apprentice duties. She couldn’t leave the camp and had to have fresh kill brought to her though. That was torture enough on it’s own.
“Can’t I go with the other apprentices and warriors to locate the badger?” Jaypaw groaned, her father, Stonedance, shaking his head sadly.
“No. I don’t believe you killed Bramblestorm, but you have to stay here.” He grunted. Jaypaw frowned, watching him turn away to follow the patrol. He flicked his tail in good-bye before the patrol left. They were going to drive the badger out of the territory and Jaypaw was sure the other two apprentices would be made warriors. She hated Ferretpaw. He was so sly. She didn’t believe he deserved to be a warrior.
Jaypaw sighed, hearing Greyears complain about nobody bringing him fresh kill. She tried so hard to please him, but he never seemed satisfied with her! She stood, stiffly, to pad to the fresh kill pile, grabbing a measly mouse for him. She dropped it at his paws, turning away to go back to the apprentice den when Featherpaw burst into the camp, bloodied.
“We need help! The badger overwhelmed us!” She yowled, turning away to lead recruitments to the badger. Jaypaw jumped forward before remembering she was a prisoner. However, she spotted Stormflower. Stormflower nodded to her, encouraging her to head into battle. She nodded grimly, charging in with three other warriors.
Jaypaw skidded into the clearing, noticing Ferretpaw lying awfully still. But, he heaved a great sigh and struggled to his paws, eyes landing on her. She saw guilt flash in them before he retreated, disappearing into the forest.
Jaypaw shook her head, looking at the badger. It was the biggest badger she’d ever seen! She gasped before charging straight into battle just as a warrior was thrown aside. She skid to a stop when it locked eyes on her, its muzzle covered in blood, beady eyes staring right at her. She had to think, had to act!
Then she saw it. A little drop off behind the badger.
“Attack its heels and drive it to the cliff!” She yowled, charging in.
“Jaypaw, what’r-” She heard Ottertuft say before she looked at the she-cat.
“Trust me.” Jaypaw meowed before charging in full speed, nipping at the heels of the badger. Ottertuft nodded, joining in on the combat.
The badger roared, rearing up on it’s hind legs as the two cats worked together, driving it back. Then, with a roar, the badger tumbled backwards, off the cliff and to the ground about a yard below. Jaypaw heard a sickening crack and peered over, noticing the badger limp. They had killed it.
“Jaypaw! You’re suppo-” Owlgaze was cut off by the leader approaching, his eyes calm.
“Jaypaw, you saved us all with your idea,” He spoke. Jaypaw lightened up, eyes bright. “But, I’m afraid we still don’t know who poisoned the pre-”
“Actually, I do,” Featherpaw limped forward, head dropped. “It was Ferretpaw… He ran away into the forest just before Jaypaw showed up with the recruitments. I saw him put some berries into the mouth of the prey and he told me if I told anyone, he’d kill me.” She mewed. Jaypaw felt her spirits raise a bit.
“Well, thank you for being honest Featherpaw. And Jaypaw… you’ve proven your skill. From this moment on, you will be called Jaysong.” He said, loudly. Every cat there started cheering her name and Jaysong knew this was her destiny. To be a warrior of IvyClan. The badger slayer.
