It was that time once more, their ancestors were still silent. Day by their territory seemed empty. Cats were starting to get thin, and lanky. Some becoming exhausted and not even moving this was a problem. Green eyes looked up to the night sky, something he had never truly been able to see clearly due to the dense and thickness of the trees in their territory. It was bittersweet to the tom. Something so beautiful he had been missing his entire life, yet to see such a thing their home was being ripped apart. He sighed before taking his spot below the ancient ancestors. Those who could still muster strength just crawled to see what other news he really had. Perhaps it was just to keep their tradition alive while they were flooded with their sorrows.
”Gather below the ancient ancestor for this moons telling!” The full moon was bright, yet haunting. It cast an eary light over them adding an odd silver light to their already ghostly looking pelts. His voice was horse as he spoke, clearly succumbing to illness as of late. One by one familiar faces gathered before him. Some crawled just to the edges of their dens, almost looking they could go to tribe of endless hunting at any moment. Just like Shadow had suggested, perhaps it was just time to do what they had to do. No more looking for answers…they had to survive and should do whatever it took to do so.
”There are no words or signs from our ancestors…” He mewed over the loud noises in the distance. Was it the distance? His ears had grown so accustomed to the noises he couldn’t even tell anymore. ”After talking with Shadow, we have decided we need to do whats best for us…look at us…dying in our own nests.” He mewed. He parted his jaws slightly to speak once more, but instead suddenly silence. He turned his head around and flicked an ear..not a single noise. That had not been the case for many dawns..how odd.
As if the Tribe of Endless Hunting could read his thoughts, the ground beneath his paws began to rumble. His green eyes wide leaped down from his spot looking at the pebbles shake and rocks tumble, and soon the noises were blaring, and stones become to crumble and fall as he heard roars of the furless bears in the distance. It was no longer safe here. ”Those who are strong enough please help the queens out and the kits!! Strong help the weak!” He scrambled as bright lights flashed into his eyes, and a loud monster started rolling towards them. Eyes wide with fear he rushed towards warriors den grabbing one of the cats by the scruff he watched in terror as a large crane came swooping down cutting into the dirt as he pulled the cat out, ripped from his jaws he watched as Owl Hidden in Mist was dumped down, red droplets scattered the ground where he once was, a horrible sinking feeling in his stomach. Stay strong don’t break now!
Cats one by one scrambled out of Stonehome. ”MEET AT THE WATERFALL!!! GET EVERYONE THERE!!!” He watched as dust kicked everywhere creating a darkness, he couldn’t spot anyone had everyone gotten out alive? Had the strong carried the weak ones towards the waterfall. AS the last to leave he continued to hear angry furless bears and watched as the ancient ancestor fell to pieces. If that wasn’t a sign he didn’t know what else was. Tail drooping with defeat he was about to leave when he heard a rasp coming from what was once the nursery. He poked his head in and saw the familiar blue eyes of one of the most adventurous of spirits. With a sullen look he saw her legs crushed, an injury that was beyond repairable were they even still…there? He took in a nervous gulp.
”snow…..” He murmured. He didn’t even know what to say to her. He knew for a fact that even if he did manage to get her free they had no medicine cat to treat her. His green eyes started to water as he licked between her ears.
T---t---telll….S-s----sun.” In between her words she wheezed. A trickle of blood forming near her mouth. She heard the soothing shhh sounds coming from Talon, she took one breath before she was gone the light from her blue eyes faded as she reached a paw out. Talon gently rested his paw in hers before forcing her eye lids shut.
”I’ll tell him snow…just make it to our ancestors please guide us!” With a heavy heart, the brown tom turned and excited their home. As he got a good distance away, he turned to look over his head, clouds of dust and rubble could be seen. This was their home…was their home…off in the distance he would hear whimpers and cries, where would they go they had no idea. However a bright light caught the green eyes and they sparked. He would recognize the cat anywhere. Doe!!!
He ran to greet the she-cat pressing his nose into her starry fur. ”Doe I’ve missed you, Doe please help I can’t do this…. Her touch sent a shiver down his spine it had been such a long time since he felt the warmth from her…his mate. They didn’t even get to start a family before she was so swiftly taken from him.
Talon….please don’t fret….we are still here…two entities have become one. We are too far to walk with you…you must come find us.” She whispered. Her voice cracked, and her form began to fade. She was using what strength she had to show him the way. When the Mighty Eagle Screeches and shows their true power, the fall of home will mark a new era, and culture.” The she-cat raised her head to the sky, and an Eagle flew across the sky heading towards where they had traveled in the past. and talon…it is time to move on my dear…I want you to be happy… The she-cat touched her nose to his and with that she faded.
Talon followed her gaze as the giant bird flew over the tribe cats, his eyes fell on them, they seemed to look at him back unaware of Does presence. I love you doe…. He walked slowly nodding to those huddled together. Young kits mewling for their mother. Shimmer and Frog appeared to be scanning the crowd for their mother, he made brief eye contact shaking his head and heard Shimmer let out a loud sob at the loss of her mother. They would be okay here for the night, at least until morning….Talon leaped up onto a rock watching the water rush over the waterfall. He needed time to think…with the lost of their home, and the lost of tribe mates…they would need guidance now more than ever.
He looked towards the path the giant bird took, still hearing its screech in the distance. He knew very well the path it was flying over. He had traveled it twice in his life there and back home again when they went to fight the clans, is that what their ancestors wanted? More war? More conflict? Surely they wouldn’t survive that mess. However, if that is what they wished, perhaps heading in that direction would give them more light….and that is what they needed Light….and Hope.
