Patchnose stretches in the morning light, her calico fur bright in the morning sun. The stocky she-cat glanced at the prey pile and shook her head, she'd wait until she hunted to get something to eat. The she-cat wondered if there was anyone willing to hunt with her as she walked about camp.
Patchnose smiled softly as she watched Cherryhawk and her son Thumppaw emerge into the morning light of camp. She was so proud of her kitten and was excited to see him become a great warrior. The calico cat against a boulder as she groomed her short , silky fur and watched the clan start to rise.
Other cats started to wake for their daily duties of supporting the clans. Mothclan was made up of a hardy bunch of cats and Patchnose was happy to be part of them. The she-cat spotted a familiar face in the crowd of cats, she stood up and gently padded up to the cat. " Oh good morning, would you like to go hunting with me ? I bet the prey will just be waking and be slow, it's okay if you dont want to" patchnose asked kindly.
Mottledfeather, with her darker coat, did prefer hunting at night; but the Newleaf rain had caught her off guard last night, sending her retreating back to her end with a slicked-down pelt and a rather chilly feeling in her body. She had curled up and slept quite till early morning, until her own grumbling belly had her waking up to check and see what was in the admittedly pitiful prey pile. She looked over it morosely, looking for the smallest bit of breakfast, when another cat approached her. She was so used to staying on her own, and not being addressed directly, that she nearly felt ready to leap out of her skin as Patchnose greeted her.
"Oh, I...uh..." She spoke in a quite voice, a little unsure as her eyes darted around as if looking for a way to escape. It had nothing to do with Patchnose personally - but Mottledfeather was the type of cat who became used to blending into the scenery. The last time she remembered being singled out for anything really was her own warriorship ceremony; and then on she went with the flow and did as she was told, thoroughly not rocking the boat and practically living as if a loner in her own clan until outright called upon to aid others.
And when it happened, despite it's infrequency, it didn't make it any easier honestly.
"I...suppose I can?" She said, making it some more like a question than a true statement. "I mean yes, of course I can...I'll...uh...should we, um...ask anyone else?"
Mottledfeather was startled when Patchnose walked up to her and the older she-cat could see she was nervous. The calico cat sat in front of the tortishell she-cat and greeted her with a soft smile.
Patchnose smiled gently at the mottled she-cat stuttering in front of her. " I think any more cats would just be too much for a hunting patrol" the calico she-cat replied. " Besides I have one of the best hunters to help me gather prey" Patchnose praised in a soft voice. The pretty she-cat nodded at Mottledfeather and waved her tail.
The tall grass beyond camp called to the calico she-cat and the beckoning song of the wind brushing aside the heather and bracken was an irresistible teather to Patchnose. Returning her gaze to the shy cat she asked to hunt with her she patiently waited for a response.
Not used to being particularly complimented, she was somewhat taken aback - but at the same time, she realized that between the two of them, she and Patchface could make a sizable contribution to the prey pile. She was happy to find that they would be keeping a small group. And she supposed, that would be fine. She wouldn't be subjected to a large group. That would have to be alright.
She realized that even Patchface was waiting for her, so...she nodded. "A-Alright then. Let's go. I think I scented a dormouse nest when I was patrolling last night. They'd be back by now, and asleep." A small offering, but still - it was a start.
