"Let all cats old enough to fight their own battles gather for a clan meeting." Mothstar yowled as he hopped onto the highest rock in the cluster of giant stones that his clan called home. He'd be the only leading figure in the clan for long enough now. MothClan was no longer just a small group of misfits - it was a real clan now, and that meant that it was time to fill the ranks of both deputy and medicine cat.
The huge, hairy monster of a leader scowled down at the clan as they slowly gathered. Good. It looked like everyone was here.
"Leaf-bare is approaching," Mothstar began. "And with it comes the risk of a lack of food. MothClan's territory is more lacking than that of IvyClan and MistClan, and, with that in consideration, I believe it is time for us to start preparing. Every little will help. I want patrols attempting to push out the edges of our territory where possible. If you see a weakness in the IvyClan border, abuse it. A MistClan area that they do not patrol well? Take it. We are going to have to prove ourselves the strongest clan in the area - no exceptions, no hesitation."
If this meant that fights were going to break out, so be it. Yes, they would probably lose some of them, but every victory would help them survive in the coming moons.
"As well as that, I want some warriors crossing the Thunder Trails and investing possible food sources around the twolegs. The loners there must survive somehow, no? While it would not be ideal for us to stoop so low as to use the same methods of survival as them, I believe that it will be useful to know where we can find food should we be in such a dire situation that we need it."
Now, with that out of the way it was time for the announcements. The choice of deputy had been a hard one. While there were many strong warriors in MothClan, none of them were perfect - meaning Mothstar had needed to think long and hard about who he would pick. In the end, he'd come to a decision that he was pleased with and that, with luck, would help the clan succeed in the future.
"Of course, I will need help organising the clan and these patrols in the coming moons. With that in mind, I say these words before StarClan, so that the spirits of our warrior ancestors may hear and approve of my choice. The first deputy of MothClan is Hailstrike."
Mothstar paused, giving the clan a chance to chant Hailstrike's name before he continued.
"As well as a deputy, we will be needing a medicine cat. Cedarleap, your legs make you a pathetic warrior. I want you to be the medicine cat instead. Hopefully this will give you a chance to actually be useful. That is all."
And, with that, Mothstar leapt back off the rock, having nothing else left to announce.
