August Writing Prompt: MEW-SICAL INSPIRATION
"Jellicles Can and Jellicles Do,
"Jellicles Can and Jellicles Do,
Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats."
For the sake of this month's writing challenge, here's to trying something a little different: We want you to create a lyrical poem or song in the vein of either T.S. Eliot's "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats." Unfamiliar? Well, you may know them better as the adapted lyrics for Andrew Lloyd Webber's Musical CATS!
That's right, folks: For those unfamiliar with the show, it is basically the story of a bunch of cats from all walks of life - feral strays, house pets, alley-dwellers (or kittypets, rogues, and warriors if you would) as they cavort under the light of the full moon and dictate their life stories: some are keen to help with the mousing and general housework, others literally magical, and all feel they are worthy of some sort of special gift from the kitty gods - the chance of being reborn to a new, loving life - nine lives, much?
So, in that vein, we have come up with a challenge for you: write yourself a rhyming piece, based on one of your kitty characters, about what makes them special. Generally speaking, Possum's poems, and the songs themselves, can be a little wordy - so don't feel bad about writing us some repetitive ballads about how awesome you are.
Is your character super dependable like JennyAnyDots? Are they mischievous rascals like Rumpleteaser and Mungojerrie? Devious master villains who want to see the world burn like Macavity? Or a pitiable figure, yearning for the hope of yesteryear like Grizabella?
Have no idea what I am talking about? Let me give you some examples:

Rules:
1. While the poems are meant to be short, we do ask for at least 150 word minimum for an entry; these are individual words, of course, not repetitive lyrics or 'chorus' as they are known. Many of these types of 'epic' poems are rather long and tell a story; we want an idea of the character.
2. Rhyming scheme is important to a lot of these songs/poems - typically, they are A-B-A-B style: kind of like a limerick. - but they also repeat and make up a lot of words as well; so you can 'Seuss' things up if you want. Make up some weird words if you need to! - And honestly, if you do have a problem with rhyming by the end, don't feel too pressured to keep with it - but it would fit the style better!
3. Have fun with it! The songs are ridiculous, silly, and full of wordplay - have fun; and there's so many weird characters and ways of portraying things. God hog wild!
4. You can only enter ONCE - But you can mention other characters in there. One single cat must be the mention and focus of the poem, but you can mention their friends, families and significant others.
5. BONUS: With the musical cats, they use a variety of musical styles along with the lyrics - rock, jazz, big band, classical, pop, country - if you want to tell us what kind of 'genre' you'd think you're character's poem may be set to, please do! Also, remember to give your poem a title!
Participation:
Each participant who makes the minimum amount will receive 500 feathers per entry.
