Scorpio's piercing stare was matched blow-for-blow as he looked up into the night sky. The tom did it often, as he had for most of his life, but that night was different. That night, he wasn't admiring the stars. He was checking if StarClan were watching. The majority of the rogues didn't believe, and he could understand that. They had no proof. They hadn't been raised to believe. Scorpio hadn't either, not exactly, but Honeyheart had believed. Likely it didn't earn her a place among their ranks, he thought with a bitter frown, but it did leave him with the belief as well. Do you know what I'm about to do? he asked them silently. Do you know I'm going to use your own move against you? And do you know where I got that idea from..?
The next sunhigh, Scorpio leapt onto his announcement rock at full force, standing up in the same fluid motion so that the inertia didn't send him flying forward. He raised his chin and called out, "Cats of the Alliance!"
He wasn't angry this time, and that was worse. This time he seemed sure of himself again, confident and efficient-- ready to slit throats, steal kits, and still believe that he was in the right. "I know it's not the usual time for our meeting, but I was struck with a memory yesterday that turned to an idea. Last time I was up here, I suggested that we should take kits from the clans to raise as our own. Spire suggested that we should have a plan before plunging head-first into the camp of our deadly enemies. That sounded sensible to me."He was quiet for a few moments, gazing at the stone piles nearby. "I remember Honeyheart saying, a long time ago, that the clans hold a Gathering in peace on the night of the full moon. They went there once, the Alliance cats that came before us. It's how Weaseltongue died."
The old tom's was the first pile there. It occurred to Scorpio a moment too late that bringing up the cat that had died wasn't going to be a great motivator. Hoping to move on from that quickly, he continued, "They bring only warriors and their important ranks, from what I recall. Their most vulnerable should be left in camp, expecting peace for a night."
Scorpio took a deep breath, allowing his message time to sink in, so that hopefully the cats gathered would come to the conclusion on their own before he spoke. "I believe this is when we'd have the best chance of an attack. The news wouldn't travel as fast either, I expect, with such limited numbers. We may be able to raid multiple camps at once. That is... if the rest of you are with me?"
