Disastrous was the least he could say about the last few moons; they hadn't even been able to make it to the last gathering, they had lost leaders, and lives; and his own had been turned upside down, and he was barely used to it himself. To say that everyone was on edge that meeting was an understatement; he felt like the air was electric and prickling under his pelt.
"Rootclan, circle 'round." He barked, gathering his clanmates together before anyone else came in to overhear them. "Until I am able to speak, there is to be no talk of what has occurred over the last moon. If our absence is noted, we can address it by saying our season has been tough; nothing more. If anyone speaks about what has occurred before I have a chance to, you will answer to me. " Another worrying thought worked it's way into his mind and he added. "And at the first sign of anyone turning hostile, wait for my signal and we will retreat."
They had been missing for the last moon, after all.
"What if they ask us about you, Shadowf-er..." Gooseberry, a relatively new warrior, still stumbled over the new leader's name. Frankly, he wasn't the only one. "Do we tell them about Rumblepaw, or - "
"That is for me to discuss, Gooseberry; and I assure you I have a plan. You needn't worry."
Oh no - the worry for what he had to discuss was firmly placed on his shoulders alone.
"Absolutely no more characters!" I promised myself, three characters ago.
Mantisstar padded toward the Gathering faster than usual, not because she wanted to be the first there, but to stay apart from her clanmates. Though the she-cat loved to socialize, her mind was elsewhere tonight. Earlier that day, one of her search patrols had caught a snatch of her stolen son's scent in the Twolegplace, and she'd been able to think of nothing else since. Her pupils narrowed quickly as the additional moonlight in the clearing hit her eyes.
The she-cat drew closer to the monster, dipping her head to the cat on top, then stumbled to a halt. That wasn't Dogstar. The scent of RootClan filled the air, but it wasn't Blackmoon either, as she'd been expecting, nor was it Screechstar. She thought at first that it was a complete stranger, but he looked eerily familiar. Her ears pricked and she took a much smoother step forward as recognition finally hit her. That was Shadowfall, RootClan's medicine cat.
"Hello," she meowed, leaving her question unspoken. She was sure that the RootClan cat would explain himself soon enough.
Of course, Shadowstar would now have to explain things quickly - as the chance to hide and think among his own clan was now behind him. And any hope that no one would bat an eye at the...strangeness that had occurred was stopped the moment that Mothclan arrived.
If he remembered, this was Mantisstar...and the she-cat seemed to pause and stare for a moment before greeting them. Maybe she was surprised to see them there; as they had missed the previous gathering. At least none of them seemed to get immediately hostile to see them there. He could only hope that this wouldn't change.
"Good evening, Mantisstar." He spoke calmly, nodding his head to acknowledge her. "I hope the past moon has seen you well. I appologize for our missing last Gathering but; it could not be helped."
Carried Home is a Warriors roleplay forum. We feature four clans - all four of which have futures that heavily depend on what your characters do - as well as a 50 word count minimum on RP posts, and a functioning currency and shop.
While most of the action does center around our four clans, members are also permitted to make loners, rogues, and kittypets. You can also make both StarClan and Dark Forest characters.
