Frequently Asked Questions
Where is Carried Home set?
Carried Home is set in North America. This means that names including North American animals - such as wolves or bears - are accepted!
What literacy level do we expect on Carried Home?
We have a 50 word count minimum for any and all roleplay posts. We have this limit to ensure that role play posts have quality content inside. To encourage this, the more words you write, the more feathers (feathers are the currency on the site) you earn.
How does the currency system work on Carried Home?
There are various ways to earn 'feathers' on our site. You can learn about all of the different ways here. You can also earn them through various site events.
How does time work on Carried Home? How much do my cats age?
Carried Home goes by a three month system, every season change in real life is a season change on Carried Home. Cats age two moons every month. This means that, in character, gatherings happen once every other moon.
How and where do I make my character?
Every time you create a character, you must fill out and post a character form. You can find it by going to the board titled "Create a character", or by clicking here. You then create a new post, with the title of your character and with the filled out form. You are free to post, and you even earn a few feathers by creating one! Please only post one character per thread. It makes it easier on staff, and you'll earn more feathers that way anyways!
What rank can my characters be?
On Carried Home we do believe that anyone deserves a fair chance at becoming a high rank. However, on the character form you may only apply clan cats for kit, apprentice, queen, elder, or warrior. High ranks are picked in a different way.
Are there any breeds I am not allowed to have?
We do not permit any cats that are hybrids of 'wild' species, such as bobcats, lynx, tigers, etc. For some of the smaller wild species, like a bobcat, you may purchase a special badge in the shop with feathers to have that hybrid. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Are there any colors that are not permitted?
We do not allow unrealistic colors, such as neon purple eyes or green fur, though mildly unrealistic colors like light lilac eyes may be allowed at the staff''s discretion. We do permit male calicos and tortoiseshells, however the badge for them must be bought in the site shop, as they are genetically rare. Blue eyes on cats without white are always allowed on-site, even though they're unlikely in real life.
What kind of names may my character have?
No character's prefix may be kit, paw, or star.
Any two-leg thing, such as 'ball' or 'hammer' or 'tube' or anything that a cat would not be able to name are not allowed.
Canon character names are not allowed, i.e. Fireheart. Minor characters that are only mentioned a few times are the exception to this.
Mist, Ivy, Moth, and Root are not permitted as either prefixes or suffixes (Clan names), unless the badge for Illegal Name is bought in the shop.
All names must be natural.
Two characters cannot have the same name at the same time.
There are more detailed rules about names in the Character Creation Rules & Info.
If you have a question regarding a name, feel free to ask.
How many characters may I create?
You may create as many characters as you'd like, but if staff find you are creating them just to earn feathers they will not be accepted. You may create 3 characters for every 1 role play post.
Where can I find a list of all the current characters?
List of cats here.
How many accounts are we allowed to have?
Please for the ease of staff and guests visiting the site, only keep one account. If you must have more than one, please inform staff. If you do not inform staff and we find out, the account that we believe to not be your main will be deleted, including its feathers, posts, and characters. If it continues, you will be banned. It makes it easier for many people visiting to know how many members we have accurately portrayed. The amount of members we have, whether low or high, can help to want to make members join.
What do the various abbreviations mean?
CH- Carried Home
IC- In character
OOC- Out of Character
RP- Roleplay
PM- Private Message
FC - Face claim, the image you use for your character
O- Open (anyone may join in and role play)
P- Private, (limited for only those people invited to role play)
Can my character be disabled (psychologically and/or physically)?
We allow these things on Carried Home, however we ask that you are respectful about what you are writing.
A good rule of thumb is the ask how the issue affects your character. For example, consider the culture that warriors grow up in. Being a warrior is seen as the ultimate goal, and every part of their life is about their clan and providing for them. Now consider how a cat would feel if he, for example, was missing a leg and therefore could not be the perfect, strong warrior that others want to be. How does this affect them? If they are fine with it, why?
This is a good writing habit for any character trait, but we bring it up here simply because we want to reduce the risk of anybody feeling upset because they feel an issue personal to them is being treated insensitively.

How about trans?
As with disabled characters, this is allowed as long as it is written respectfully and considered in the character's history and personality.
Consider that the clans would not actually have a concept of being transgender. Many cats would likely find it strange, and possibly not even accept it. Also consider that there is no way to lessen gender dysphoria in the warriors world. A trans warrior could be asked to be called by a different pronoun, but they could not actually change their body. At this moment, trans characters are not allowed to biologically have children, but they would be allowed to adopt.
Breeding System
How does breeding work on Carried Home?
If you want your cats to breed, you must start a topic on the breeding board which includes the details of your cat, and the partner must reply with their cat's details. Your cats will be pregnant for a month (which is 2 moons/months their time) and then will give birth. You may also purchase items that will make the pregnancy shorter. It is possible to opt in for the mother to die during childbirth, but is not required nor added without your permission.
How many kits can we have? Who decides?
A female can have up to six kittens. Some may die however, or, if it is during winter, may starve. Some may be born with defects or disabilities. A staff member will send both of you the message as soon as the pregnancy is finished.
Names, colors?
Staff also decide the colors of your kits, including eye color and fur patterns. Staff also chooses the genders. However, you may buy items in the shop that allow you to pick these things yourself. You may pick the names (prefixes) for free, or have the leader of your Clan pick the names.
Do cats have to be mates to have kits?
Cats do not have to be mates at all! They do not even have to have a post together. The only requirements we have to breeding are:
Both must be at least 12 months of age.
One must be male and one must be female, unless a special badge is purchased. May not be related.
Both characters must have been in a total of any three threads each.

Forbidden relationships may have in-character consequences.
Other
What are loners, rogues, and kittypets?
Loners: Cats who live on their own who do not claim a territory, and are typically not violent nor threatening, particularly towards kittypets and Clan cats. Oftentimes they have their own belief system, but some may be previous Clan cats, or believe in StarClan. It is unknown where loners go when they die.
Kittypets: Kittypets live and depend on Twolegs for their survival. They live in their kittypet homes, and very rarely venture outside.
Rogues: Rogues are often exiled Clan cats, and are often very violent and threatening. They sometimes form groups, and they often claim a territory, although they have also been known to roam. Rogues that were previously Clan cats commonly go to the Dark Forest after death.
How are high positions chosen?
All high ranks are chosen through application threads, where roleplayers can submit their character or characters for the role. Leaders choose their deputies, and medicine cats choose their apprentices when they feel ready for one. If a clan has no medicine cat, the leader will choose the medicine cat or medicine cat apprentice. If a clan has no leader, all ranks for the clan will be chosen by staff. There are some requirements for high ranks:
The deputy must have mentored at least one apprentice, making them have to be at least 18 moons old if they had an apprentice at exactly 12 moons.
All high ranks must regularly make posts that are of high quality, thorough, and meaningful. Generally they are grammatically correct, and most members can easily role play with them. High quality does not mean length, but rather something that all members would feel comfortable replying to.
A member with a high rank may not have broken any rules in the past three months, is familiar with the site, and is active enough so that other members can get easily contact them.
Leader Duties
Have name ceremonies for apprentices.
Be active and lead for gatherings.
Make regular announcements and necessary ceremonies for the Clan.
Medicine Cat Duties
Be active in order to heal cats.
Collect herbs weekly usually, less in the winter, far more in the summer and spring, and most often in the fall to stock up for winter. (remember that the site changes seasons every three months)
Be a participant in the medicine cat gathering, once a month, every half moon.
Deputy
Send out patrols.
Monitor apprentice training.
These are not all the duties, but simply examples of some. Remember, members may come to you at any time with their characters requesting help or attention, and you must be active.
All high ranks must be active. If they do not make an IC post for a long time, they will be removed from the rank.

What are the requirements for becoming an apprentice or warrior?
The only requirement is age itself. On the cat list, once your kit becomes 6 moons, they will be moved up to an apprentice. Once they are 12 moons, they are eligible to become a warrior, but must have a name ceremony performed by the leader, as well as stay vigilant for one night after. The leader will choose your warrior name by default, but if you wish to have your own name of your choosing, you may message the leader.
What do I do if my mentor becomes inactive?
If a mentor is inactive, simply message a staff member, and we will give you a different one. You may switch mentors at any time for any reason, just notify the staff and you will be assigned a new one.
How do I use posting templates?
All you do is take the code that you have from the posting template itself, hit the BBCode at the bottom left of your post, paste the code, then switch back to preview mode, and fill it in with the content of your post! Since the plug-in does not work correctly, to reuse the same post template you have to just go back and edit your previous post with that character, copy the code again and repost it in a new post.
