And I hope for a trace to lead me back home from this place,
"These trees belong to the wild cats. They live in groups and care for each other."
Toffee told her son, Dog.
She had brought him near the Clan territories to teach him about them and their lifestyle.
Dog gazed up at the trees, in awe.
He does live in a forest, but he was still fascinated at how the Clan cats lived.
The two unknowingly crossed one of the Clan's borders, treading into their territory.
Toffee sensed another cat, they had a unknown scent clinging to them.
She tensed, and glanced at her son, who was watching some insects crawl up a tree.
"I think that's enough for one day. Let's get back home, and then we can come back another day-"
"You won't be coming back here."
A intimidating voice spoke.
A silhouette moved among the shadows, staring Toffee and Dog down.
Toffee instinctively moved Dog closer to her, her ears flicking backward and her heart starting to race.
Dog looked at the cat, confused.
Did he want to hurt them?
He thought they hadn't done anything wrong.
More silhouettes appeared, circling them.
They started growling and snarling, baring their teeth.
Toffee tried to explain,
"We didn't know we were trespassing. We can leave-"
"No, you should've known. Now you know, at least."
The cats rushed forward and attacked Toffee, clawing her repeatedly.
She lashed out and struck one of their faces, but there was only one of her.
Dog cowered in fear, mewling, scared for his life.
One of the cats dragged him out from under Toffee, and shook him by his scruff repeatedly then threw him down onto the ground.
Toffee turned on the cat, biting and clawing.
The cat hissed and snarled, pinning Toffee down and biting her shoulder.
She managed to twist her head around enough to see Dog, who was hiding beside a tree.
"Mama!"
His green eyes teared up, what was going to happen to her?
"Dog! You have to go! Run as far away as possible from here!"
He hesitated for a moment, then turned and ran as fast as he could go.
He had to be brave for Mom.
Toffee slashed her claws across the cat's face - enough to make him get off her.
She limped across the clearing, panting from how tired she was.
She ended up collapsing; she had many claw mark wounds across her now.
Quite a few of them were deep and dripping blood.
The enemy cats had backed off, they thought she'd just die from blood loss.
She didn't.
She, somehow, miraculously survived.
She had gone unconscious, however.
Whenever she woke, she groaned in pain.
The claw marks were still sore.
She struggled to her feet and looked around.
Her son was no where.
She only hoped they didn't catch him.
But there was no sound, there was only me and my disgrace.
