"May all cats old enough to fight their own battles gather for a clan meeting!"
Another moon had passed and that meant that there were ceremonies to complete. This moon, Mothstar's own kits were becoming apprentices. They weren't the best kits by any means - most of them were rather pathetic, in fact - but he still couldn't help but feel somewhat proud of them when he thought of them growing up.
But first, there was a new warrior to greet.
"Webpaw," Mothstar began, jumping straight into the ceremonies, "You have trained hard to understand the ways of the warrior code. Duskjaw had been a good mentor to you. StarClan honours your confidence, and I call upon them to recognise you as Websplash from this moment onwards."
As the clan cheered the new warrior's name, Mothstar's eyes moved towards the nursery, where his kits peered out at the clan gathering. "Many of you will have noticed that our nursery has been growing rather cramped recently. With that in mind, it is time to welcome some new apprentices. Elkkit, Heronkit, Lionkit, and Boarkit - would you all please step forwards?" Smudgekit was left out, the leader still angry at her for her blatant disrespect the other day.
"Elkkit, Heronkit, and Lionkit - the three of you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Elkpaw, Heronpaw, and Lionpaw." Mothstar's eyes fall onto each new apprentice in turn as he spoke directly to them. "Elkpaw, your mentor will the cynical Rowanfrost. Heronpaw, you will be taught by the gentle Alderfall. Lionpaw, the confident Dipperstreak will be your mentor."
The leader then looked towards his blind son. "Boarkit," He said, "Unfortunately, your newfound condition means that you will not be able to become a warrior. You will move to the elders den, and from this point onwards you will be known as Boarspark - both because I hope that you will not lose the spark of a warrior inside your despite your situation, and after Tallspark, the first victim of the illness that had taken so much from you."
Mothstar had thought long and hard about his son's new name. It was tempting to name him something like Boarfall or Boartwitch - something that would blatantly reference his disability - but the kit seemed... Well, he seemed depressed, and even the often unempathetic leader understood that it was perhaps best to avoid a name that would be a constant reminder of his loss. Boarspark seemed like a good compromise - something that represented him, but also could give him hope.
He had planned to end the meeting there, but Mothstar's eyes caught a glimpse of Smudgekit in the background. Hm. His daughter was a problem. She was disrespectful and needed to be taught a lesson, but he supposed it would be better to have her begin training as soon as possible. MothClan needed warriors - not kits that were too old to be in the nursery.
"Smudgekit," Mothstar called out, "My cousin, Loonflight, will be your mentor. Under him, you will learn about respect and the warrior code, and from this day on, until you become a warrior, you will be known as Smudgepaw. Do not make me regret lifting your punishment."
And that was the ceremonies done. As the members of MothClan cheered for their new apprentices (and their new elder), Mothstar jumped off his rock and rejoined the crowd.
