Time and time again Owlstar rose upon her ledge to address her clanmates. This time was no different. She jumped up to the top of the stones, her paws cold against the rocks slick with ice. But of course, graceful as she is, she kept her footing easily. Once she rose, she cleared her throat loudly, and then shouted across the clearing in the meeting call that had become customary for her clan. Her fur puffed up, a bit against the cold, a bit with pride. She was the one that led them here, that made this camp their home. And they have had many ceremonies since.
"May all cats old enough to climb the rock face gather here under the Highledge for a clan meeting!" Her voice was loud and proud, as befit the elegant leader. She watched as cats gathered beneath her, heeding her call. Though the eyes of her clanmates filled her with warmth, a pang of hurt sliced through her. There were so many cat that should've been here. So many that should've survived, and made it. She let out a soft sigh, and then held her head high to continue.
"We have gone through so many ups and downs this past moon," She began, casting her startling yellow gaze over the clan cats. "We've been blessed with kits, strong apprentices, and yet have survived a plague, and a brutal snow storm," Owlstar spoke, her voice even, if not a bit sad. "We must take a moment, to bow our heads, and think of those who were not able to make it. Our friends, our loved ones, may they have found peace in Starclan." With this, she bowed her head, eyes flickering closed. It was silent for a few moments, minutes, hours? She didn't know. But soon, she rose her head once more, up to the sky.
"Starclan, heed my words as clan leader, and approve of my choices! We have apprentices to be made warriors today! Owlpaw, Timberpaw, Maplepaw! Come and join me!" The she-cat commanded, waiting for her clanmates to acknowledge her and rise to the Highledge.
"Owlpaw, you have been through countless hardships in your young life, and still remain a lovely, adventurous she-cat today. You've found your own way, and for your excellent exploratory and tracking skills, I named you Owlpath. May you show others that suffer the way to a better life, as you did."
"Timberpaw, you are trustworthy, loyal, and above all, a friend to anyone for life. You've brought so much joy and sweetness wherever you go, I can tell that one day you'll be an excellent mentor to your own apprentice. For your strength and love for your clanmates, I name you Timberheart. May you forever be as strong as the tree you were named for."
"Maplepaw, you are an optimistic cat, always looking to help your clanmates. With your sense of humor and cheeriness, you walk with a bit of a jump in your step and bring joy to those around you. For that, I name you Maplespring. May you always rise like the flowers in Newleaf and bring happiness wherever you go."
She finished the new warriors, raising her head to Starclan to ask them silently for their blessings, as the clan chanted their names. Once the uproar died down, and they were silent and the brand new additions to the clan had returned to their seats, did Owlstar speak again.
"But we don't have only new warriors, but new apprentices as well." She mused, casting a sideways glance at Olivenose by the nursery. "Milkkit, Waspkit, Owlkit, Raccoonkit, Rookkit, and Beetlekit, please join me." She paused, waiting for the kits to scramble on the lower ledge, as they were still a bit too small to make it to the higher one where she sat, presiding over her clan.
"Milkkit. You have been a lovely addition from our clan since the start, and being blind will never make you weak. To prove this to you, I call on Snowsight, a warrior who has proved himself time and time again that he is an asset to the clan. Until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Milkpaw."
"Waspkit, you are a bit stubborn, much like someone else I know," She began, casting a bit of a glance towards Blackheart in her amusement. "You need someone that will show you to be open minded to new ideas, new opportunities. Olivenose, you have proven to be the perfect warrior to train Wasppaw."
"Owlkit, you are a fiery young she-cat, your mentor should be someone calm and collected to combat that. Sparrowcry, you are a quiet young warrior that knows how to be patient and to listen well to your surroundings, I trust you to mentor Owlpaw."
"Raccoonkit, you are young and already so full of love for your clanmates. I believe that I would be the best mentor to you, I will show you how to walk as quiet as the night and to talk like the battle's already been won. I hope you believe in me as well, Raccoonpaw."
"Rookkit, you are... Quite ambitious, for one your age," She huffed, sending a look in his direction. "You aren't close to being a leader yet, but I'll get you one step closer. Wolfclaw, I trust you will be able to guide Rookpaw well, and maybe get him to show a little respect." She hummed, before finally turning towards Beetlekit, warmth echoing in her gaze.
"Beetlekit, you have shown fine young aptitude in your few moons, and as per your wishes and Starclan's, Larkbeat has chosen you to be the new medicine cat apprentice of Ivyclan. Our clan's future will rest in your paws, don't forget it, Beetlepaw."
And with that, Owlstar stepped back, perfectly happy and content with her speech. She listened as her cats cheered for the new apprentices, and glanced off towards the nursery to her own kits, peeking out around the corner. They were about of age as well, it would certainly be a new generation for Ivyclan.
