It seemed like only yesterday that she had risen upon this wall of stone and addressed her clan, but here she was, doing it again so soon. Perhaps her kits were older than she realized. A bit of sadness flickered in her heart. No more nights curled up together with them in the nursery, a giant nest of fluff and warmth and happiness. She sighed, but it must be done. They were ready to explore, to grow, and by Starclan, she was so excited to watch them. She leaped up in a series of graceful bounds, and settled herself in her snowy spot to call on her clan.
"May all cats old enough to climb the rock face gather here under the Highledge for a clan meeting!" She shouted, her voice warm and happy and just absolutely excited as she addressed her clanmates. They gathered quickly, as they were prepared for another meeting soon after the one the other day. She smiled warmly down at them as they came together, and finally spoke with her head held high.
"As you know, we still have some kits in the nursery prepared to become apprenticed! This will be a bountiful Newleaf on it's way, and even though it's still the end of Leafbare, we will have plenty of paws on hand to do the grunt work," She joked, whiskers twitching in her amusement.
"Now, Scorchkit, Starlingkit, Smokykit, Pebblekit, Cinderkit, Kestrelkit, and Lichenkit, please approach the Highledge." She spoke, waiting for the kits to scrambled up on the lower ledge beneath her own, sitting up straight with their chests puffed out in pride.
"Scorchkit, you are a gentle, kind tom cat. Your mentor will reflect the same, but with her quick skills and quick thinking, she'll help you become the warrior you were meant to be. Lightningwind, I entrust Scorchpaw to you."
"Starlingkit. You are a regal, graceful she kit. You often remind me of myself, and you care for others like they are all your family. Brooksong, I am aware you are a new warrior yourself, but you already possess the skills I wish you to pass on to Starlingpaw, I trust I am making the right decision in leaving her training to you."
"Smokykit, you are always looking to help your clanmates, even if you don't realize it yourself. You are a cat that likes to slow down and appreciate things, that likes doing the little quiet things to help others. Cricketjump, you are a cat that continually asks questions, looking for answers. I believe that you two can help each other grow in ways you hadn't thought possible, so I assign you to mentor Smokypaw." She paused for a moment, giving the warrior a glare that said 'don't make me regret it'.
"Pebblekit, you are sweet and quiet, a cat who likes to take things at his own pace. Oakwish, Pebblekit reminds me a lot of yourself when you were young, and you have grown to a fine young warrior today. I believe you will be able to train Pebblepaw into being the best cat he can be."
"Cinderkit, you have the potential to do great things in life. You are thoughtful, and logical, but you tend to see on the more optimistic, funnier side of things. I assign you to Firechaser, a warrior who has proven to be an excellent model of Ivyclan pride. He will be able to train you to be an excellent apprentice Cinderpaw."
"Kestrelkit, you're the bravest kit that I know. You never let anyone get the better of you! Much like Kestrel, Barkfur, you are an excellent warrior that refuses to take anything from anyone, and you'll be able to teach Kestrelpaw how to do this in her adventure as a warrior."
"And Lichenkit, you are a lovely kit that just wants to make friends with everyone possible. I believe that Rivershine, is the best mentor for you. You are both sweet and wonderful cats, and Rivershine will be able to show you how to use that kindness to your advantage, even in the most dire of situations. Teach Lichenpaw well."
She finished, and bowed her head to pray to Starclan and wish the new apprentices well. The echoes of her clanmates cheering the names of the new apprentices echoed in her ears, and she felt her emotions suddenly well up in her chest, though she blinked back the tears in her watery eyes, and lifted her head in a bright grin, to join her clanmates in cheering the names of the new apprentices, and especially those of her kits. They really do grow up so fast, don't they?
