Buckleap the Loner

Buckleap strolled into MistClan's rocky camp with a small mouse in his mouth, mildly displeased with both the size of his catch and the droplets the waterfall was throwing at him. It showed only in the twitching of his long ears and rounded tail-tip. He approached the fresh-kill pile with leisurely steps and dropped the rodent there. A leaf fragment dropped down with it. Buckleap glanced back at his pelt and saw a littering of small leaves and twigs and soil. Great. If his clanmates weren't looking at him for being new, they'd be looking at him for this.

A smirk flickered on the side of his mouth before fizzling out. The forest seemed to attack him whenever he went near it, closing in and dragging him back, tripping him whenever possible, but it was a part of his territory now and he had to deal with it at some point. It didn't mean he'd like it. On top of being the new cat with half of the forest in his pelt, Buckleap had forgotten that he was standing in front of the fresh-kill pile as he thought about it.

The tom flopped down in front of the warriors den and settled down to groom his pelt. He wasn't going to slack off in his hunting duties while the sun was high, especially since it was his most notable skill, but he wasn't going to ruin his hunt by stepping on a twig from his own pelt. Yellow-green eyes quickly swiped across his surroundings but didn't seem to notice anything. It was a force of habit, apparently, from days in the Twolegplace when dangerous or obnoxious cats could pop up at any moment.

A lonesome, exaggerated sigh bounced off the nursery boundaries. All her siblings, asleep or busy elsewhere, and her parents the same. Ugh! What was a girl supposed to do to find some fun around here!? "Maybe I'll just jump off the waterfall," she challenged the silent air, earning little more than some shifting around. Orchidkit scowled, her fluffy tail lashing, "Fine then. I'm going now. If I don't come ba-aaack, you know where to fiii-ind me!" Her nose held high and her tail still flicking with annoyance, she sauntered out of the den only for her sour mood to lift as she spotted the source of that funny new smell that had been in the camp for a day or two. He was clearly searching around, but he didn't think to look far enough over to check the nursery- first mistake, Orchidkit grinned, stepping quietly and as slowly as she could stand to towards him.

Hoping she had remained undetected, she reached a paw forward almost shakily once she was in range, attempting to take a clawless play swipe at his ears. A new cat meant she could try all her tricks again! A devilish gleam entered her eyes, the tip of her tongue just poking out of her mouth. She really hoped he was at least a little startled.

Buckleap shrugged to himself. Nothing notable. The tom roughly licked his fur and began to pick bits of the forest from it. His ears twitched as he heard some kit scamper around nearby, but he didn't bother to look up. That was the sound of being in a clan. It wasn't long before his ears caught something else. He jumped up so far he landed on his paws.

The tom wrinkled his nose at the kit, a tiny twig dangling on and then dropping from his chin. Annoyance quickly smoothed to a neutral look. Swiping out with a fast paw, Buckleap swatted the she-kit's ears just a little harder back. Just please don't cry. You'll get me in trouble. "Is this how MistClan cats greet each other?" he asked. "Guess I've been doing it wrong."

He settled back down and held in a sigh. Why was it that all of the MistClan cats that wanted to interact with him were kits? Troublemaker kits, too. "What do you want?"
