[ti]Open[/ti]The Flower and the Flame

The light of the spring sun shined down on the soft, new grasses of the meadow as a spotted body rolled across the green expanse. Orange eyes glittered up in narrowed, focused slits as the Mistclan apprentice swiped at the ground. "Like this. See? You swipe low and aim to trip them up."

Saltpaw had been given the task of taking one of her peers, a passive apprentice named Fawnpaw, out to battle training by the order of their mentors. The young diluted calico was well-known amongst the apprentices for not being too keen on sparring and battle, from which she managed to receive some flak. Saltpaw had heard these cruel jokes, but not taken part in sharing them herself. Instead, she simply ignored them and thought Fawnpaw was a tad bit too soft.

When the older warriors had summoned the spotted apprentice to tutor the diluted molly, Saltpaw had thought it was a good idea. Now, as she rolled about the grass displaying different 'easy' maneuvers, she wasn't so sure. Fawnpaw wasn't much of a fighter, and Saltpaw wasn't sure if she could change that.

Sighing, Fawnpaw watched as Saltpaw showed her once again how to do the technique. It wasn't that she couldn't do it, but more so that she didn't want to do it. Fighting never solved anything, it just caused more problems in her eyes. Slowly the diluted calico stood up, and swiped her paw quickly at Saltpaw's front legs, trying to unbalance her. Getting low was an easy task, as she was already a small cat to begin with. The harder sparring techniques were the ones that involved jumping, since she had short but not to short of legs.

The warm sun was starting to really feel nice on Fawnpaw's back, almost nice enough to lay down sunbathe and take a nap. "Geez, I'm starting to think like an Elder at the rip old age of 10 moons" rolling her eyes at herself, the she-cat knew she needed to really start focusing so she could become a warrior. "Saltpaw, do you think we could practice some different moves?" Maybe changing it up a bit would wake her up.

The spotted cat straightened up with a blank look, nodding slightly. "Sure." She stretched her long body dressed in rosettes quickly as she studied Fawnpaw's expression. The she-cat seemed to be lost in an inner turmoil, thus Saltpaw remained quiet as she allowed the slightly older apprentice to handle whatever it was she needed to for herself.

After a bit, she tilted her head to one side and with her orange eyes glowing quizzically, she mewed,"Would you prefer to take the offensive and I'll try to guard against it?"
