A soft, sweet scent of flora wafted through the air as a lean white warrior breathed in slowly. Odd eyes glowed with a faint twinkle as the somber warrior attempted to perk himself up in the warm morning sunlight that shown through the trees.
Only a short time had passed since Owlstar had graced the eldest kittens with their apprentice names, and the large group had been bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at the prospect of starting their warrior training. Longwing had been proud of them as well as the warriors named to be their acting mentors, and the pale warrior hoped that perhaps he would be able to patrol with the bustling little furballs from time to time, helping to lend his knowledge and flex his teaching abilities for the day when he would be named some cat's mentor. What the long tom had not been expecting for being named one so soon.
Not long after being named a mentor, the pretty warrior Oakwish had been found dead in her nest. Longwing himself hadn't seen her nor knew of how she died, but some whispered foul play. It had cut the tom deep not only to know that one of his clanmates had left them, but had also left such a scar on the newly named Pebblepaw who was to be her apprentice. In an effort to hasten the grieving process and get the clan back in order, their leader had named Longwing as Pebblepaw's new mentor and left the warrior with the worry that somehow he wasn't ready to be this cat's guiding figure.
Still though, he had a job to do. And that entailed taking the small speckled tom out on his first outing in the territory. Longwing had much to learn about his new apprentice and Pebblepaw equally had much to learn about their home beyond the camp. So as Longwing swallowed down his sadness to make room for a soft smile, he gently pushed his way through the apprentice den's entrance and meowed in a murmur,"Pebblepaw, good morning. It's time to get started with training."
