there was still a certain strangeness that radiated from mothclan's camp as pinetuft stood as observed it, the mixture of cats all from different heritages still felt odd to him, but it was nothing the young warrior couldn't get used to. he had managed to settle in quite well in the clan so far, and rather quickly too, which he found rather surprising as he never thought he would fully adapt to being surrounded by cats who he had once considered enemies.

a soft breeze passed by quickly, running through pinetuft's patched coat as glanced around at his clanmates, trying to remember all the names that belonged to the many unfamiliar cats he had started to become accustomed to during his stay- it had started as a slightly amusing way to pass the time, but pinetuft didn't take long to become bored of the activity... until he spotted a familiar black and white pelt among the crowd that brought a wide smile to his face. he purred and walked over to batstrike, the cat he had noticed, and brushed his pelt against his, nuzzling his head into his brother's neck for a few seconds before chirping out, "hiya."

BATSTRIKE

A black and white figure sat alone in the busy camp. The tall tom had strategically placed himself in a quiet spot next to a large rock in camp. The rock had spent all it’s time gathering the Greenleaf sun’s rays and was now sharing the heat it had stored. White paws gathered neatly beneath him, the feline was pressed back into the hard surface so he could enjoy the warmth. He squeezed his cold yellow eyes closed and tiled his head back as a breeze swept through the camp. A little smile pulled at his leathery lips when it played with the ruffled fur on his neck and then continued to roll out of the clearing. Long tail flicking to the side he returned his square head to its original position. An unfocused black gaze left the cat with blurry vision which came to focus on an approaching figure. A grin reappeared across his maw when he recognized Pinetuft.

Batstrike had also been adjusting to their new home. He had suffered from poor sleep since their arrival, but it had recently calmed down. He had struggled to settle in, but he’d get used to it eventually. Still anyone could question his loyalty to the clan at this point, even he did. The only thing he knew was that he could be happy here if he had the two cats he came with and they were happy. They were family, not this clan, but that was alright with Batstrike. He purred in greeting and leaned into his brothers fluffy build to return the nuzzle. He winced slightly when his skin pulled from the contact and reminded him of the freshly healed wound at the base of his scruff. He played it off to his little brother with his response, “Heyya Pinefluff!” He teased happily, pawing at his brother’s foot.

pinetuft grinned wider as batstrike returned the nuzzle, although he couldn't help but feel a quick flash of worry run through his system at the wince. secretly, he had worried about his brother quite a lot since he and shadowstorm, a cat who he wasn't super close to but respected nonetheless, had been attacked by a dog on clan territory. he wasn't sure whether to feel lucky that he wasn't there or not... afterall, he himself was safe, but had he been there he could have helped defend the two.

yet, pinetuft shook away his brief worry when batstrike began to paw at his foot, laughing loudly at the nickname he had grow to like quite a lot, well when it came from his brother's mouth anyway. he began to copy the black tom's moves, bending his front legs and swishing his long furred tail in the air, baring a striking resemblance to a kit trying out their first hunting crouch as he wobbled slightly, trying not to fall over. he knew batstrike wasn't all too fond of kits or immaturity, but he figured he wouldn't mind him.

"helloo, batsy," he purred, eventually falling onto his flank with a soft thud, still smiling, "how's life?"

Batstrike chuckled along with Pinetuft. He was glad his brother could play along with the light-hearted joke. The tom only used this nickname when the two of them were alone, he hadn’t shared it with anyone else because he simply wouldn’t put up with others teasing the tom. He lifted his feet one at a time to sloppily try to avoid Pinetuft’s pawing. Such games typically would have driven the feline away, but his brother could do no wrong as far as he was concerned. He didn’t even notice how childish the act was, their relationship had blinded the cat from his own pet-peeves. He huffed out a big spitting breath as some of Pinetuft’s long fur escaped from his pelt from all his swishing and floated into the air. It had approached Batstrikes face, he had managed to blow most of it away, but still had to twitch his dark whiskers to relieve the itch of the stray hairs landing on his maw. 

He shook his head amusingly as Pinetuft flopped over, he couldn’t help but be reminded of the strange cat he met at the gathering whom did the same action. His smile faded for a moment at Pinetuft’s question. Life had been rough for a bit, he was restless and having nightmares, but then he started to settle and life was good. Unfortunately now there was rouges, a mystery clan, and Shadowstorm was recently heavily injured in the same dog attack. It was a roller-coaster that didn’t have very high ups and Batstrike was stuck on the ride. He was still fairly ashamed of his inability to chase off the dog that was in the territory, he wasn’t particularly keen on chatting over his recent failure.

The sly cat avoided his brothers question by reaching his white paws forward to readjust next to him. Cautiously lowering himself into a laying position, careful to not rip open his healing wound. He let his head fall limp on top of his brothers exposed flank with a soft landing on his fur. He would let Pinetuft interpret that however he pleased. “You should have went to the gathering with me,” he pouted jokingly. “a lot happened.” He was referring to the plans to find the new clan, but he really wasn’t that interested in that since neither of them nor Shadowstorm had been selected for the mission, instead he wanted to share the cat he met there with his brother. “I met the strangest cat from our old clan. I think he was an outsider before, he spoke really… different?” Batstrike wasn’t quite sure how to explain the huge tom’s mannerisms. “You’ve never heard of a Longstride, right?”, he puffed out speaking through Pinetuft’s fur below his jaw. The felines yellow gaze peering forward past his brother as he watched the rest of the clan in camp.

pinetuft let out a loud laugh as several strands of his bright pelt flew in to the air, squinting his eyes slightly to protect them as his littermate began blowing it away from him. he purred with a wide grin, shaking to try remove more of his shedding pelt before the wind just blew it around again. he just missed the fault in batstrike's smile through his own childish joy. the young merle had been trying to ignore the clans' recent events, although he had to admit that he was certainly curious about the rumours of a mystery clan...

the warrior's tufted ears pricked up when batstrike began to shuffle his white paw's towards him, his wide playful grin turning to a more calm and relaxed smile as he moved his own paws towards his own body and tucked them in by his chest. a contented purr released his mouth as batstrike lay his head against him, swishing his long fluffy tail gently.

pinetuft poked his tongue out again at the black tom's joking pout, reaching over to paw his face slightly, although he struggled to reach in the rather odd position he was laying in. he simply nodded as he waited for his brother to continue, repeating the action several times to show he was paying attention to the other's words.

"you've never heard of a longstride, right?" pinetuft tilted his head slightly and glanced off out of the corner of his eye in thought for a few seconds before quickly shaking his head. "don't think so, although i may have seen one walking around," he paused before smirking, "why? are they cute?" he chuckled quietly at his own words.

Batstrike’s eyes remained out on the camp as some cats padded between the dens. His ears flattened back and he squinted to protect his eyes from the playful pawing, but other than that he laid still. Simply allowing Pinetuft to tap at him in a fake defeat. He adjusted his white paws beneath him and then rolled off his brothers side, landing in the soft grass lightly. His shoulder stung briefly, but he didn’t flinch at the pain of the healing wound this time. The tom let his long tail twitch in the grass as he curled his spine and lifted a paw in the air so he could see between them.

He smirked at Pinetufts comment, “Hmmm, maybe not cute for you…” he teased and let out a laugh with the thought of the tall tom standing beside his brother. “Besides,” he struck out his rough pink tongue in a show of defiance, “I’m not setting you up with anyone until I find a kind she-cat. You could help ya’ know.” He chuckled again, rolling onto his back and kicking his paws up into the air. That was a funny thought, unlike his brother, Batsy hardly spoke to anyone outside of his group. He hadn’t even talked to any of the pretty she-cats in MothClan, let alone any outside of the clan. He wouldn’t have any luck with the ladies unless he dropped the cold demeanor towards others and seemed approachable.

With that he flopped his legs back down to face Pinetuft, his face sporting a mischievous grin. “So, what kind of trouble have you been in without me around?” His ear twitching as he propped himself up comfortably on his elbow. Square head tilting to the side as he wondered if Pinefluff would humor him enough to go on a stroll. “Say, wanna go out to check for trouble?” They could romp around out in the territories and have some fun.

pinetuft let out a small exhale of quiet laughter as batstrike 'accepted his defeat' and lay still. the merle hummed a soft purr as he relaxed for a minute before bats started to speak again, a wide grin forming on pinetuft's face. he raised a brow at the statement, "what're you trying to say?" he asked as if he was offended, but the smirk on his face showed he was just playing. "pfft, i wait for the day," he grinned, swishing his long tail, "i'd be surprised if you even managed to speak to a she-cat for me, nevermind convince them into anything... you'd be a terrible wingman," he licked a paw, "besides, you know it's my job to make things as difficult as possible for you."

stretching his tufted limbs and yawning softly, pinetuft twitched his dappled nose and raised both brows this time, "bold of you to assume i've been troublesome when i've actually been a good boy recently," he stuck his pink tongue out with a smirk, starting to stand up. "of course i do," he purred.

The lean tom shook his head at his brother playfully, holding his tongue as if whatever he had to say was too dramatic and he didn't want to share.  Batstrike rolled his yellow eyes, "Yeah, yeah.  I'm the worst, I know," he mewed with a little shrug.  The young cat was terrible for conversation, he'd have to open up eventually if he ever wanted to get anywhere.  "I'd say you're pretty good at your job then, I'm sure if you did talk to a she-cat about me you'd joke the whole time." He smiled happily as he watched Pinetuft stretch.  

He hardly believed Pinetuft had been on his best behavior.  "Good?  You mean good at lazing around and eating freshkill," he chuckled as he drew his white paws beneath his frame to stand.  The tom rose to his tall stature and turned with a flick of his tail to his brother before trotting to exit the camp.  He'd no more than cleared the bush before his gait extended to the full potential his long legs held, bursting to full speed as he tore at the grass.  The toms muscles ached but quieted as he ran along, his shoulder stinging not even crossing his mind until he stopped abruptly.  Batstrike turned to see if he'd outrun Pinetuft or he kept up, kicking dust up at the tom with his paw when he got close.  He bounced down into an athletic stance, ready for his brothers retaliation.

pinetuft snickered with a short nod of agreement to batstrike's statement, flashing a white-toothed grin as he began to stand straight, casually stepping towards the black furred tom and clumsily bumping in to him in another haphazard nuzzle. he purred loudly.

"you really do underestimate me," he spoke in mock offense, although the curved corners of his mouth showed amusement, "i've been around the territory a few times and i've actua-" the merle started to speak matter-of-factly, brows raised as he began, but was quickly cut off when batstrike began to trot away towards the exit. "wow, don't even wait for me," he huffed, beginning to walk a little faster to try catch up with his brother... until he started running, and pinetuft finally recognised the competition.

smirking, the pale feline stretched his limbs quickly once again and began to sprint, bright blue eyes squinted as thin clouds of dust began to accumulate before his face. his head turned to the side to block his features from the dirt as batstrike suddenly stopped running and dropped to an athletic stance. pinetuft once again huffed and stopped as quickly as he can, paws skidding just a little across the dirty ground as he halted.

"where to first, then?"
