It was the dead of night when Mothmaw left the MothClan camp. He didn't have a medicine cat, he didn't have a deputy - but he did have a dedicated clan of followers. Surely that was enough for the clan to become legitimate in the eyes of StarClan?
With hopes that yes, it would be enough, Mothmaw started his journey north. He followed the twoleg path - the one that the giant, thundering monsters travelled on. While the large warrior didn't know the exact location of the Moonstone, he had heard that it was in an unnatural cave and he believed himself capable of finding such a thing. After all, how hard could it be?
When he came to the new gathering location, he stopped for a moment to observe the dead monsters. They were certainly impressive beasts. How the twolegs had managed to tame them, Mothmaw would never understand. The achievement proved how dangerous the twolegs were, though. If they could make these monsters bend to their will, what else could they do?
(In a way, Mothmaw wanted to be more like them. If he too could tame monsters, then his clan would never have to fear anything.)
Continuing to follow the path, the warrior was lead further and further into IvyClan territory. This was one of the reasons why he was travelling at night - because he was less likely to be stopped by any enemy warriors. The other reason was because if something went wrong, then MothClan would never have to know about it. He could just sneak back into camp the next morning and pretend that never happened.
Not that he believed that something would go wrong. No, Mothmaw was convinced that StarClan would accept both him and MothClan. Why wouldn't they? He saw no reason not to allow his clan to exist and therefore giving him his nine lives.
Mothmaw's paws were beginning to grow tired as he came too the more rocky side of the territories. He could sense that he was growing close, though, and soon- Ah! There! The dark opening that was propped up by cut wood had to be the place.
Silently, the tom scurried inside. He weaved his way down abandoned tunnels full of cobwebs and dust until, finally, he saw it. The Moonstone. It was honestly beautiful - the large crystal protruding from the ground and giving off a faint, blue glow. Mothmaw gazed at it with awe as he stepped closer. Right. What did he do now? Usually a leader would have a medicine cat with them to explain what to do, but he didn't have that privilege.
(He didn't need it.)
From what he'd heard, he just had to press his nose to the rock and he would fall asleep? Well, okay. It was worth a try, no? Mothmaw lay down next to the crystal, touched his nose to it, and, over the next few moments, slowly drifted off to sleep.
The next thing he knew, he was standing in StarClan. Yes! This meant that he was accepted as leader of MothClan, right? Brilliant. Mothmaw stood and looked to the starry cats surrounding him.
"Right, then." He said, voice full of confidence. "What have you got for me?"
