"Why do the Monsters even run on these things?!"

Bloompaw, with his naturally curious nature, was a royal terror when it came to being an apprentice. He couldn't feel how things would hurt, or how others would hurt - so he was willing to push boundaries that others could not. While his mentor did his best to keep him on a short leash, he was prone to exploring on his own - the only saving grace was that while he couldn't sit still, he couldn't keep his voice under a dull roar, either. 

"If I was as big as a monster," He continued to crow, "I would run all throughout the forest! NOBODY'D BE SAFE!"

Forget than nobody was safe already, he crept towards the top flat of the road, testing the weird rocks underpaw as if he expected it to explode underneath. 

"Oooh, weird...."

The pretty brown she-cat followed a few fox length behind the apprentice.  Her golden gaze was lifted far beyond him and the monsters path.  Sparrowlily was scanning the distant horizon for rouges, this was their border with the outsiders after all.  She never felt completely comfortable here with all the possible threats; If Bloompaw wasn't with her she would never be here on her own.  The warrior took a deep breath as the sense of unbeknownst dangers passed.  She looked down to the tom making hypothetical threats and let free a giggle.  Her own apprentices serious and determined nature had allowed his training to move smoothly despite his mentors lack of experience of confidence.  His training well handled she had plenty of time to take this uncontainable apprentice out for an adventure and breath of fresh air.  

"If you grew as big as a monster I would cower, but your chatter won't scare me away- just they prey." She mewed with a playful smile, tilting her head as he examined the strange terrain.  She hadn't heard a monster charging their way so she only sparred a quick glance each direction before approaching.  "Your mentors probably already told you this, but you shouldn't tempt the monsters.  Cross quickly if you need to and don't play in their paths."  Sparrowlily's whiskers twitched as she watched for Bloompaws reaction.

Bloompaw had never met a danger he didn't try to prod head on - at least at first. Perhaps it was due to the fact that his mother's laise-faire attitude had bonded with his fathers' lack of physical feeling to make him feel untouchable. But in this case, part of the reason may have been that he had never actually seen a monster in the first place; therefore the idea of a monster was abstract at best.

"I bet I could take it!" He breezed to Sparrowlily. "I could protect you, if you're ascared!?" Of course, Sparrowlily was as brave a warrior as Sweetbriar had to be - so he doubted fear was keeping her back. But still, he could offer couldn't he? Since he wanted to be a big, strong warrior too. "It can't even run off this weird rock, can it?" He patted the ground with his paws, savoring the slightly weird feeling of the asphalt beneath his pads. "That's what my momma told me before. So I could definitely beat it in a race!"

But he knew that he should be listening to Sparrowlily. And so while he padded with high steps, savoring the weird feeling, he hurried over to her side. "Have you ever seen a real monster, Sparrowlily?"

The warrior nodded kindly to Bloompaw, "No warrior would be scared with you fighting alongside them."  The little tom couldn't have possibly known how fearful Sparrowlily truly was though.  She had been terrified when the rouge group was at large and she was useless during the battle against the tribe all those moons ago- No, brave wasn't a good word to describe the she-cat. She was good at other things though, like entertaining this young cat and weaving in some lessons to keep him safe while she did so and she could be proud of that at least.  

"You're right Bloompaw, it always runs the same path.  I think that why the ground is like this, worn from the number of times the monsters run by."  Her golden gaze watched as he pranced across and to her side, she nodded to his last question.  She'd seen monsters running through here several times actually and so she knew exactly how fast they were.  "Just be sure to race away from their weird trail, not along it, if they ever chase you.  They are faster than any cat, trust me."  

A mischievous look crossed her face, her muscles bunching before the she-cat sprung forward and bounded several fox lengths away from the tracks.  She kicked up dust as she skid to a halt, turning to the tom she giggled, "You better be quicker if you even want to beat me,"  Sparrowlily teased, lifting one of her legs to show she'd won with her short little strides.

Bloompaw's purr of delight threatened to shake his entire lanky frame as he took in the praise of the older warrior in only the way some young toms with newly developing egos could. She might not have been his mentor - but he did enjoy the chance to hang out with Sparrowlily, who was patient enough to answer his questions in a way that even his own mother had seemed to tire of after a long enough time. He couldn't even tell her subtle tricks to maneuver him away from the dangerous path, as he began to call him forward and away from the hard packed earth. 

"Wait! No fair I didn't even say we were racing!" He cried, skittering forward in a few steps that ended in a small tumble into the forest floor and finally away from the uneasiness of the path that fascinated him. He sat up and shook his head, seemingly unbothered by a few burrs that his fur had managed to collect on his slide down. "You might be fast, but I bet - I bet I could be faster, huh? If I watched how the monsters run, and tried to race 'em. I'd be the fastest cat in the forest, right?"

Now there was an idea - he'd have to talk to his mentor about that.

She smirked playfully, crouching as if to pounce at the tom.  Her fluffy tail waving behind her, "Your prey doesn't care what's fair- they only care about winning the race."  With a little hop she was at the apprentices side.  Her short stature barely making her dip her head to pull a sticker she spotted in his pelt free.  

Stepping back she nodded thoughtfully, "Hmm," her purr rang out.  "The fastest cat in the forest, aye?  Just be careful racing monsters."  The warrior picked another burr loose with her maw.  "So what kind of warrior do you want to be Bloompaw?  Besides the fastest of course."  Sparrowlily turned to continue their stroll, but her yellow gaze held on the tom for his response.  She always loved to hear what great feats the clans youth planned on achieving.
