Please note this thread takes place in the past, it is not meant for anyone to respond to it is simply a developmental post for Bracken and Evening. It is also a prelude to a MothClan plot line so please read! This takes place PRIOR to MothClan’s most recent Ceremony Black Summer.
Newleaf had come and gone, the more recent heat wave had made cats rather uncomfortable, some areas of water had dried up and it would certainly be a long season. The black tom figured that with some of their water getting dried up pushing on Mistclans border would be most beneficial for their needs. If they were thirsty, prey was also thirsty, so it would make good hunting grounds as well. He looked at the cats running in and out with small prey it would hardly be enough to keep them going the entire green leaf. With an irritated snort he turned to a few passing warriors and gave them a nod. ”Gather some cats and head straight to MistClans border when you come back I expect a thorough report I want to know how often they are marking borders….” He mewed firmly.
The warrior appeared to gather another and a couple of apprentices before taking off. ”Batstrike could you send a patrol towards IvyClan, this prey pile won’t even feed half of us. Same idea I want to know how often borders are marked see if we can’t push them back for a hunting strip.” HE knew he could count on the tom before looking at the others. With the camp slightly empty the black tom picked up a big piece of prey before heading towards the nursery. He placed it gently by Bellfeathers paws. ”This is for you…with a shortage you need to keep your strength up.” He gave her a head bump before letting a warm purr emit from the back of his throat. ”When I’m done organizing patrols I’ll watch the kits, get out stretch your legs.” His tone was soft and mellow, and honestly filled with compassion it was something that was quite rare so to speak for the black tom.
Just as he left he spotted Brackenstar emerging from his den, the brown tabby beckoned him forward and before he left he turned to the queen. ”Looks like Brackenstar needs to chat I will be back soon.” With a dismissive flick of his tail he peered into the cooler den he sat down, tail around his paws before he raised a curious brow. He didn’t see the leader that often, he was out patrolling so to speak he cleared his throat before looking back at MothClan’s leader. ”I figured you must be wanting an update. I’ve sent patrols to Both MistClan’s side and IvyClan’s side to see if there is something we can push with the attention on MistClan’s side for water.” He mewed before shifting slightly.
"That’s not what I called you in here for”
His words echoed in Eveningblazes mind for just a moment. For once The black tom didn’t have any sort of come back. ”Oh…? Then.. what do you need.” He mewed. He couldn’t recall of any trouble that had been around recently, the rogues had been quiet not a peep out of RootClan, which….was rather surprising, then of course nothing from Rookstar and his brood of deputies. Besides the most recent heat wave, and lack of sustenance (which he was working one) there wasn’t a single thing he could think of.
"I broke one of the rules from the warrior code Eveningblaze. One that I thought I never would. I had a forbidden relationship with a cat from another clan.” He mewed. He eyed eveningblaze ever so slightly to see what kind of reaction he would have, but to his surprise his deputy’s expression was simply blank.
"When I was gone yesterday I traveled to the moonstone, where I gave up my nine lives to StarClan, one by one they took them away, I am no longer Brackenstar. I am just Brackenfall, warrior of MothClan.”
The black deputy took the words in, not even sure what to say. His claws dug into the ground as he shifted uncomfortable. Eveningblaze was a tom who took the warrior code rather seriously, the only time it was meant to be broken, and even then a fine line was when the clan as a whole depended on it that was why he was so eager to push territories to help those who were thirsty and hungry. ”You picked quite a bad time in case you hadn’t noticed your….well…not yours anymore warriors per se are hungry and Thirsty and now you decided to spring this on me, How kind of you.” He mewed with an agitated tone. ”How long has this going on that you decided just now was a good time to talk to me?
Brackenfall wasn’t surprised really. The black tom was always the ‘don’t cross me type’ and he hadn’t been the least surprised with the reaction he received. "Late leafbare, early new leaf It wasn’t easy…it wasn’t an easy choice to make. I’m sorry it took this long but please know I’ve been meaning to tell you for awhile…”
Eveningblaze snorted before standing to his paws and heading to the den’s exit. ”I guess that means I’m going to Moonstone, and that this is my den now. You should probably make a nest in the warriors den then. Had you said something to me earlier, I probably would have kept you my deputy, I trusted you but now….I think now I’ve changed my mind.” Eveningblaze didn’t say another word before exiting the warriors den. Tomorrow Ceremonies would have to be done…after that…he would go to Moonstone and get his nine lives…eight lives? Who knew…and things would change….
