Early to rise as usual, the tawny-furred queen had wasted no time in joining the dawn patrol that morning, which she often did as a natural "morning person". As the air became hotter in the daytime, however, Otterspark was forced to slow herself down, something she never liked to do. It had to be done, though- her thick, pretty fur came at the cost of poor ventilation, and the high-set sun of midday beat down on her like a waterfall. A waterfall actually sounds pretty nice... she mused in the shade, only her reflective yellow eyes standing out from the green-tinted shadows beneath the trees. In spite of the heat, though, her paws itched to do something- she hated being idle! Surely she could find someone or something or somewhere!

Watching a few cats mill about in the sunshine, her eyes lit up as she spotted the black and white pelt of Batstrike, finally without the sleek black of Eveningstar at his side. Oh, she respected their new leader and all, but he was a bit too severe to hang out with, while his new deputy was a much more pleasant cat to talk to. "Batstrike!" she called over, her energy returning as she leapt up and trotted closer, "Busy, busy, hm? If so, I'd love to help- but if not, perhaps you could be? I'm free to do whatever." Her tail waved over her head in anticipation of his answer.

Heat baked into Batstrikes short black pelt as he sat near the camp entrance.  He'd received the dawn patrols report this morning and had just finished up assigning the evening patrol and ensuring they had enough hunting parties going out today.  The tom now sat quietly pondering what actions Eveningstar would take to secure a water source for their clan.  If the NewLeaf sun kept drinking up the clans small water sources they would have to push farther into MistClan territory.  He would definitely be on the patrols that heavily challenged the border, but he thought carefully who he'd want to accompany him.  His eyelids lazed downward over his yellow eyes as his white tail tip tapped thoughtfully on his paws.  

His mind couldn't stay on task for long though, he was beginning to wonder if he was melting as the heat absorbed into his dark fur.  Batstrikes name ringing across the clearing brought his attention to his names source.  Otterspark's approach brought a handsome grin across the tom's maw.  "Hey there," he chimed to his kind friend, head tilted as she questioned if there was anything to be done.  He nodded with a playful sigh, "It feels like I'm always busy," he chuckled, "Everything's all set for today though and I'm just sitting here stressing myself out about things I can't control."  Batstrike offered her a sheepish look, she always listened to his worries.  Since they were both free maybe they could go and forget such things for a little while.  "It's hot, we may not have much time left to go enjoy the water in our territory before it dries up.  Whatcha' say?"
