"Careful, Claykit - don't go too far now."
Swanstream had spent the last few months with hardly any time for herself; not that she complained. She had carried her biggest litter yet, and then raised six eager kits. Now, they were apprentices; but she was still careful in keeping an eye on the little Claykit who had been found lost and alone in the woods by Shadowfall some moons ago. He wasn't as old as her own kits, but she was as careful of him as if he had been born to her.
However, going from having seven little ones to one was, well, different. It was much easier to keep an eye on the big kit after all, than a massive brood that wanted to get into everything. She took him out on more excursions, not afraid that he'd run into danger as she had with the bigger lot. And as she made herself comfortable she sighed, almost wistfully.
It was almost...boring. She had Floatingcloud to talk to of course...poor dear. But she missed getting to stretch her paws and making up games to occupy all the little ones. At the same time, Claykit wasn't always interested in playing games with her as he was trying to follow cats more his own age around.
She was lonely - even if Ravenbranch kept coming to share dinner with her. Oh, how she missed the press of bodies against hers - be the little or large. She was eager for some adult conversation too - starved for it.
But what could she do? Ravenbranch was out hunting, after all. She rested her head on her delicate paws and sighed.
