GnawingOnIce Minor PP as a continuation of the previous thread

   

      Their paws laid into the ground thunderously as the two boys rushed into the forest, racing gleefully through the powdered snow. Fallenpaw let out a hearty laugh as they sprinted through the lush undergrowth, sending mischievous glances at Maplepaw as he kicked the white blanket up. "Come on! Hurry up," Fallenpaw teased his new playmate. 
     
     The young boy often had an incredibly hard time making friends, and honestly, he never knew if he really wanted them. However, this experience was...new, and kinda...amazing? Yeah, that was the perfect word. This boy, Maplepaw, was kind, sweet, and a possible friend. Not to mention he had placed his paw over Fallen's own in a warm sign of friendship or, something else perhaps? Who knew?

     The two young ones gradually slowed to a stop, glancing fondly at each other. "So," Fallenpaw started, "where do you wanna hunt?"

Maplepaw raced through the snow-covered forest with Fallenpaw, his orange tabby-patched and white pelt blending in somewhat with the background. He kicked up the snow and occasionally twigs. Fallenpaw teased him, which made Maplepaw laugh. "You know I'm faster than you!" He panted, skidding to a stop. Fallenpaw asked where they wanted to start hunting. "Hm." He pricked his ears and swiveled them around, listening for the slightest sound of movement.

Man, if Timberpaw was here he'd be able to hear something within a second with his big ears. He heard something eventually, however. He turned toward the sound, which was coming from a pile of twigs covered in snow. He crouched and whispered, "There." keeping his eyes locked on it. He began to move forward, blending in with the background. A snow-white head poked out the pile and looked around, it's ears pricked. It was a squirrel, which seemed to be looking for something. Maplepaw held his breath, praying to Starclan it wouldn't spot him. It didn't and went back to foraging.

He breathed a silent sigh of relief, waited a few moments, then launched himself forward. He landed beside the heap, sending the squirrel running out of it. It raced up a tree, but Maplepaw knew he was fast. He raced up the tree, digging his claws into the bark, and caught the squirrel by it's tail and dragged it down with him. Maplepaw landed on all four paws in the snow, and bit the squirrel's neck, killing it. He sat down and panted, a bit tired. He turned to Fallenpaw, "Your turn."

     The young boy cocked a brow and smirked, impressed by Maplepaw's work. "Quite a kill.."The boy said with a devious grin before stalking off in the opposite direction, his large ears perking in search of prey. He wanted to show off his skills, as hunting was what the boy prided himself on. He really wasn't much of a fighter, but with his patience and speed, the boy could catch nearly anything he wanted. 

     As he padded along, a slight glimmer of excitement fluttering in his eyes, the boy picked up a sound. He floated along the ground towards it, his sleek figure shimmying as close to the earth as possible, belly fur tickling the snow beneath him. Honing in on the sound, the boy found himself crouched afore a pile of rocks, a soft scratching sounding from underneath it. Parting i=his jaws to inhale the scent, the boy caught something that made his mouth water. A hare...

     The boy huddled close to the ground before springing at the rocks, creating a great deal of noise as to scare the rabbit from it's hideout. Though it seemed as if he were to lunge into the rocks, the boy dodged and leapt up at the last moment, springing over the rocks just in time to catch the hare fleeing. The boy leapt upon it's back, crushing the hare and smiling with pride. He whipped his head around to catch the eye of his playmate, grinning at him widely. Although the hare was not huge, it was a rabbit, and therefor a decent catch.

Maplepaw watched as Fallenpaw hunted a hare. He inwardly commented on how Fallenpaw had somehow.. he wasn't sure, 'broken out of his shell', he guessed. He liked it. The ginger tabby patched apprentice smiled as the other looked back at him with his catch, clearly proud of himself. "Great catch!" Maplepaw grabbed his squirrel and trotted over to him, and set it down so he could talk. "Should we head back to camp? We can always come back and get more. Besides, all this commotion must've scared almost everything off." He glanced around as he spoke, making sure nothing was hiding from them. He picked up his squirrel again and turned, getting ready to go back to camp, unless Fallenpaw wanted to stay longer, of course.

     Fallenpaw dashed back over to Maplepaw once he had finished speaking, shooting him a soft look. “Ready to go so soon?” The boy inquired with a sweet tone. He brushed up against Maplepaw, hoping to mislead him in this situation. Then suddenly, the boy called out, “Race you back!” With that, Fallenpaw shot off, running like the hare in his jaws in order to escape his new friend. He would win this time! 

      What a time this was. Fallenpaw was feeling so...free! For the first time in a long time, he was having fun, young and unafraid with a new companion by his side. It proposed the question: could anything be better than this moment? The young boy gave a loud MREEP as he ran, a loud coo much like that of a bird...In this second, he was soaring with delight.

Fallenpaw brushed his pelt against Maplepaw's, captivating Maplepaw for a moment. Though Fallenpaw dashed off, "Race you back!" This shook Maplepaw out of his daze, "Hey! No fair!" He grabbed his squirrel and ran after Fallenpaw. As he caught up, he heard Fallenpaw make some kind of weird noise. Maplepaw laughed, "You're so weird!" He called out around his squirrel, about a tail-length behind him. How dare Fallenpaw use his cuteness - he meant, uh, his friendliness to distract him. A thought struck Maplepaw, what if.. what if he was.. he didn't know, falling for him? He'd keep the thought to himself for now.
