Silverfang leaves camp with Frostpaw by her side this time, making sure there is plenty of time for the slow medicine cat to carefully show her apprentice every stick and stone along the way to the moonstone. It took them quite a while to get there, long enough that Frostpaw is likely plenty fed up with Silverfang’s slow pace, but thanks to their early start, they are still the first pair to arrive.
The medicine cat sits on one side of the mouth of the cave, gesturing with a quick twitch of her tail for Frostpaw to come sit by her. “Now, remember your manners with the other medicine cats, Frostpaw.” Silverfang chides her apprentice, using a joking tone though she is hoping that Frost can play nice with the other healers. “You’ll be leading us here next halfmoon, so I hope you were paying attention.” She purrs to Frost, still using a bit of a playful tone.
Frostpaw was incredibly sleep-deprived and excited for her first medicine cat meeting... meaning that the actual walk to the Moonstone had been torturous for the young, impatient apprentice. Frostpaw had tried to push Silverfang to go faster through the whole trip, though the medicine cat's insistence that Frostpaw pay attention to the path there had eventually defeated the apprentice, and she finally slowed herself down and walked by her mentor's side until reaching the cave.
Frostpaw quickly sat herself down by Silverfang, her paws, whiskers, and tail all twitching and shuffling restlessly as she tilted her head back to look at the top of the gaping mouth, behind which was nothing but darkness and the smell of cold, damp rock. "I'll try- no promises, though," Frostpaw mewed, dropping her mischievous gaze back to her mentor. "And of course I can get us here next time. I think I memorized every twig on the way here." Frostpaw bumped her shoulder against her mentor's, purring despite her teasing tone. She couldn't wait to see what the other medicine cats were like! And... she'd get to meet StarClan!
Mothclan arrived shortly after, with the medicine apprentice leading. It would be Jaggedtooth's first time here also, though he doubted that he would be received the same way as a younger apprentice, considering that he was older than every one of the current medicine cats, he could be a grandfather to some of them. However, Jaggedtooth was still in his prime, even if he wasn't leaping around with the enthusiasm of a sprightly apprentice anymore, and he couldn't help but feel the flickers of anticipation as he entered the mine and followed the soft hues of light to where the moonstone resided. He could tell from the voices, sounding unusually loud to him because there was no other noise nearby to cover them, that the other medicine cats must already be here.
It was like he was meeting them all over again. First, his mint green eyes fell upon the older of the two she-cats, identifying her first as she was the easiest to remember. Of course, he'd seen Silverfang at gatherings, she was a hard cat to miss, being a cripple and all, but they'd never spoken as they'd had no reason to. Now she, and the rest of the medicine cats, were about to get to know each other better than any other cat he'd meet in their clans. Then his eyes slid to the slightly smaller, long-haired molly. In all likelihood, he'd probably seen her at a gathering as well, but she'd just faded into the rabble that were apprentices and had never really made enough of an impression as one of them to stick into his mind.
The first thing he noticed about the dynamic between the two Mistclanners was that they were clearly close. Though, he was going of a comparison to his relationship with Cedarleap, which was professional, but friendly, only. Could they be sisters? Lovers? A snort erupted from the tom, obviously that wasn't the case. But at least it would make for good gossip back at camp.
With his slight lisp, overlaid with his deep, gruff voice, Jaggedtooth's voice could be a little hard to understand at first. He knew this, so he tried to enunciate more when speaking to those who were completely unfamiliar to him, for the first few sentences at least. They'd get used to it. "So?" With his internal analysis over, Jaggedtooth swiftly moved on to more interesting topics, namely who everyone was. "Who are yer all, then? Huh? Mainly you," He mewed, tilting his head a little and gesturing towards the snowy apprentice with a paw. "Cuz' I know who that one is," Clearly meaning Silverfang.
His attentions that turned to the Moonstone, "Ah, so this is it, then, is it? Starclan aren't exactly humble, are they? Couldn't of gone for something a little more subtle? No?" He huffed in humour, knowing full well that he was probably about to meet some of them so he didn't want to irk any of them. Hopefully, they could take a joke. Though it did occur to him that there weren't that many Mothclan ancestors, seeing as the clan wasn't old enough to have many deceased ancestors. He pondered this for a second or two, before finally moving to take his place, saving a little room for his mentor since that's all she needed.
The trek was a memorized trail underneath her paws, and she moved without much thought, habit moving her feet as if Starclan was leading her themselves. Like always, the smaller tortoiseshell was grateful that Ivyclan was closest to the old mindshaft, even though Mistclan was not too much further away. Mothclan on the other hand? She wasn't so sure she would stoop to say that she envied their longer walk. While a greater 'sightseeing tour,' this distance was long enough for her to trek without irritation or growing weary. Like usual, it hadn't been long since she had seen the other two medicine cats, but as she grew close (and last to arrive, with Beetlepaw trekking behind), something in the air felt a bit off. Where calico and cream had stood now faced a young, white furred femme and a silver male, who was curiously older then them all. A warrior.. why was he here?
The question lingered in her head, but she shoved it aside for now, beckoning for Beetlepaw to quicken up the pace as the medicine cat would hurry up, unwilling to keep the rest of the medicine cats waiting. "Silverfang, Cedarleap.. I apologize for being late." she would apologize with a quick dip of her head, only to turn and focus pale olive eyes on the two new forms, curiosity clearly evident on her face. "I believe is safe to ask who these young-" she cut herself off, clearing her throat and regaining her speech as if nothing had happened. "-this young lady is, Silverfang." she directed it to the two Mistclanners, flicking an ear as she drew attention back to the warrior. "Is Elkpaw sick?" she would then ponder, drawing her tail close to her body as she studied the smaller (yet larger then her) tom, drawing a fair conclusion in her head that was just taking the place of the apprentice.
A lot happened the last moon, it seemed. But despite immediately mentioning the elephant in the room, she wouldn't take much heed to the change in the fact that new faces or not, the same tradition was continuing. New paws wouldn't keep her own from walking with her ancestors tonight. She didn't rush however, and simply settled down, allowing herself t rest to a couple moments as small talk and discussion could ring out. Catching up with them and digging into some new, juicy gossip was the highlight of her moon.
Silverfang simply purrs in response to Frostpaw, before her ears prick up at the arrival of Cedarleap and… a warrior? It seems like Frostpaw isn’t the only new face in the crowd this halfmoon. She chuckles as Jaggedtooth confirms he knows who the MistClan medicine cat is while asking about her apprentice but before Silver has a chance to respond, her gaze is drawn by the arrival of the IvyClan medicine cats. The silvery she-cat smiles at all four other cats, giving a nod of greeting to all of them.
“Morningpaw stepped down. This is my new apprentice, Frostpaw.” Her tail curls around Frost. While Silverfang had liked Morningpaw and enjoyed working with her former apprentice, there’s certainly a different kind of comfortable and confidence when Silver is joined by a cat who’s been in her den more often than not since kithood. Her gaze turns towards Jaggedtooth and Cedarleap; her smile is welcoming as she looks over Jagged. “Though I suppose I can ask you the same question?” She asks gently.
Frostpaw's gaze flicked to the newcomers as they slid into the cavern: a small, short-legged gray she-cat with white splotches, a black-and-orange she-cat, and an old silver tom. Frostpaw already knew that the gray she-cat must be Cedarleap, while the tortoiseshell was Larkbeat, but she wasn't familiar with the older tom as he approached them.
Frostpaw straightened up as the older tom went on to question who she was, narrowing her eyes at the rudeness and abruptness of his question. Silverfang was quick to introduce the new apprentice to the medicine cats, though Frostpaw wasn't about to hide behind her mentor. "Yes, I'm Frostpaw. It's nice to meet you all," Frostpaw greeted, gaze flicking around to take in the cats she'd be working with for many moons to come. They looked... nice enough, she guessed.
After her introduction, though, Frostpaw let her attention be drawn to the Moonstone, whiskers starting to twitch with anticipation at the sight of the large, dim stone. She'd heard about how it shined brilliantly when the moon rose to its peak in the sky. Oh, moonhigh couldn't come soon enough...
Cedarleap treaded along, the long greenleaf grass brushing the fur on her belly. She was going to the medicine cat gathering with her new apprentice, Jaggedtooth. Part of her missed the presence of Elkpaw, but this was the way it was going to be. Her and Jaggedtooth arrived at the entrance to the cave shortly after Mistclan’s medicine cats, Silverfang being a familiar face while the cat beside her, who must be her new apprentice, was not.
“Hello, Silverfang.” Cedarleap nodded to the other she-cat before letting Jaggedtooth talk to them, plopping down under the entrance to the cave. It wasn’t too long before Larkbeat came along. Silverfang’s new apprentice was Frostpaw, a white pelted she-cat.
“Nice to meet you, Frostpaw. This is Jaggedtooth, my new apprentice. I’m aware of his age, but I don’t have a doubt that he’ll be just as good as any other apprentice would be.” The white spotted she-cat introduced Jaggedtooth, gesturing with her tail to him.

Ah, maybe he should have realised that they would be a bit confused. Though he expected to lose a bit of muscle with his new lifestyle, for now he still had the toned body of a warrior, and an experienced one at that, so he couldn't really blame them for being confused. His attention turned away from the Mistclanners for a moment in order to greet the next arrivals. Medicine cats sure were pious about arriving on time.
He was met with a tortoiseshell, followed by her own shadow, which moved independently, apparently. He knew her to be Larkbeat of Ivyclan, he watched as her green eyes met both him and Frostpaw with interest, mostly him, though. "Ay! I'm still young too, yer' know!" He sounded anguished, as if the she-cat had just insulted his mother, but his eyes were alight with humour. Unusual for a Mothclan cat to greet supposed enemies so lightly but Jaggedtooth didn't mind putting his allegiance as his second priority until something that concerned Mothclan was said.
It was then that he realized that what he originally thought was Larkbeat's weird mutated shadow was actually her apprentice. It took him a few moments to recall the dark she-cat's name, their mentors were always more well known but... ah, Beetlepaw was also well on her way to being a distinguished medicine cat herself so it didn't take too long to recall her name.
Frostpaw was certainly under a lot of scrutiny, as everyone turned back to the younger, white feline, though Larkbeat had a much gentler way of approaching the situation. A new apprentice as well? At least he wasn't alone, though Jaggedtooth doubted that she would be willing to develop the bond that peer apprentices often do with each other. The greyish tom was about to comment before being asked about himself but the white-furred apprentice in question decided to speak up for herself.
She must not be too impressed with him, if her facial expression was anything to go by, but Jaggedtooth didn't mind. For those not used to harsher personalities, he could seem a bit full-on. From what he knew of Mistclan, most their warriors were either bird-brains or just generally docile. He'd always thought of himself as friendly, though, especially compared to some of the warriors back home, some of them could make you cry just by speaking to you. Like Eveningblaze and Mothstar, though Mothstar made him cry whenever Jagged thought of all the bacteria that was probably living it up in his mass of fur. "Well, it's good to know that Mistclan has such an able apprentice as the next medicine cat," Was able the right word? He hoped Silverfang wouldn't take offense, but he was sure she'd have heard it all before.
Speaking of the soft-toned feline, she was the next to speak up with a question about him, it didn't take long but it was longer than he'd have expected for his identity to be questioned. Luckily, Cedarleap was on hand to introduce him. His mentor was direct and encouraging. "Aw, thanks," His teasing tone was back but there was definitely genuine gratitude in his voice, that he hoped his mentor would be able to pick up on. He knew that she probably had a much better bond with her former apprentice, on account of seeing Elkpaw grow up from a kit under her care, so it was nice to see that Cedarleap was giving him a chance regardless of his age.
By now, they should've guessed that he was definitely one for conversation, so far none of the cats present looked too adverse to him, so maybe they wouldn't grow irritated with him just yet. "True - I'm older than all you young'uns, but don't think you can use it against me, I'm glad I'm no sprightly apprentice anymore," All those hormones were not fun, no matter what anyone said. Hopefully, with his age being so directly addressed, they'd relax a little, he hoped he didn't look too threatening, with one of his canine teeth visible, but they'd have to put up with him no matter what.
Silverfang’s fluffy tail flops down on Frostpaw’s head as a not so subtle reminder that Frostpaw is to play nice this evening. MistClan’s medicine cat simply purrs in response to Jaggedtooth’s praise of Frost; Silver doesn’t seem offended at all, in fact, she seems glad that the older tom thinks so.
While Silverfang doesn’t really understand the thought process behind choosing an apprentice older than the medicine cat themself (since the point is kind of for said apprentice to replace the medicine cat if something happens to them or when they get too old to do their job properly? It seems strange to Silverfang, but she’s not one to judge), the silvery she-cat doesn’t seem at all apprehensive or intimidated by the older tom. She smiles at the joking tone he takes with Cedarleap and chuckles when he states he’s glad he’s no longer a young apprentice. “It’s nice to meet you, Jaggedtooth.” She purrs, a welcoming tone in her voice.
A quick glance around confirms that the silvery medicine cat knows the name of everyone present now. “Well now I think we all know each other. Shall we begin? I know at least one of our newest apprentices is probably eager to be official and all.” She questions the small gathering, her soft smile not leaving her face though an amused glance is directed at Frostpaw.
Frostpaw was quick to shake her mentor's tail off of her head. She couldn't help rolling her eyes at her mentor's playful reminder that she needed to be nice to these cats. "Yeah, thanks. You're okay, too," Frostpaw muttered as Jaggedtooth dubbed her an "able" apprentice, a distant look in her eyes. It was clear that Frostpaw wasn't about to muster up any genuine interest in tonight's conversation- she was gonna talk to StarClan, for goodness' sake! She could already hear the jealousy in Pigeonpaw's voice when she told him! Warriors were okay, too, but... medicine cats were better. From tonight onward, Frostpaw was gonna be important. A real asset to her clan!
Frostpaw let out a little purr of amusement, almost forgetting where she was as the medicine cats continued their small talk. It was only when Silverfang suggested that they begin the ceremony that Frostpaw perked up, her eyes widening. "Yes, please!" Frostpaw squeaked out her agreement, an excited smile gracing her features.
