Olivenose

Olivenose had been pregnant for nearly a moon, and it had been becoming more and more apparent to the ones around her. She had already been moved to the nursery and taken off patrols, which was one thing she hated. She knew it was the right thing to do and she would be more comfortable doing so, but she despised not being able to feel the grass and dirt beneath her paws.

One crisp afternoon, Olivenose trodded up to her own leader's den, hoping she wasn't resting or busy someplace else. "Owlstar, if you aren't busy, could I have a moment with you?" She purred, a gentle expression on her face. There was something she needed to get off of her chest about Owlstar, and there was no better time than now.

Of all the cats she expected to bother her on a chilly afternoon, Olivenose wasn't even on the list. The leader rose her head in surprise, ears flicking forward at the queen's familiar voice. She'd just been in the middle of cleaning her claws, but it didn't truly matter. If she was needed for something, Owlstar would always put her clanmates first.

"Olivenose? Oh, of course not, come on in." She invited the she-cat in, with an accompanying flick of her tail to add to her words. She couldn't quite fathom what Olivenose needed. They weren't very close, so this wasn't some sort of friendly chat. She knew the queen had already been taken off patrols, she was that far into her pregnancy already. Just the thought of it stung for a moment, but Owlstar quickly pushed the familiar feeling away. It didn't matter, not anymore. But old habits die hard. She still felt her heart pang every time she walked past them. The leader pushed herself to a sitting position, curious, luminous yellow eyes focusing on her clanmate.

"What can I help you with today?"

Olivenose

Olivenose began to shuffle her paws nervously. She wasn't exactly sure of where to start, how to put this... "I know about how you felt about Blackheart and if you still love him, I'm not mad"? No... that wouldn't work. Too cheesy and upfront.

"I just wanted to talk to you about uhhh... Blackheart, yeah," She purred. "And you... and how it was before Blackheart and I were mates," She tried her best to not step over any boundaries by being on this subject. Olivenose's crush on Blackheart had been since she was a few moons into her apprenticeship. She saw how Owlstar treated Blackheart and had noticed some interactions between Owlstar and Blackheart, all of which made her heart drop a little bit. However, she never felt resentful that her crush was giving someone else attention. Then all of a sudden, Owlstar started assigning them on patrols together, and that's how it all began.

"I could see how you felt for Blackheart and I still went for it... do you hate me? Ohmygosh, I hope you don't hate me... We need to build eachother up, not break eachother down. I've always looked up to you as like, a sister, or a mentor..." Her voice began to trail away in slight embarrassment.

Owlstar was, to say the least, surprised. She didn't think she'd been that obvious, had she? Well, it didn't quite matter. Stress and worry did not do well for one's kits, the leader quickly set about to soothing Olivenose's concerns. Her smile was soft, if not a bit sad, and a quiet laugh slipped from her throat.

"Oh Olivenose, I could never hate you." She hummed, her voice flickering with amusement as she watched the queen fumble a bit over her words. Owlstar pulled herself to her paws, striding over to look at her fellow clanmate with gentle, bright yellow eyes. "You are more right for him than I ever could've been. He needs someone that takes care of him, someone that can make him happy." She tried to find the right words. It wasn't as if she was still desperately in love with Blackheart, it had faded considerably since he and Olivenose had gotten together. Though, she supposed she left a piece of her behind, a piece of her heart that still fluttered at a smile and stung with a glance. It didn't matter, though, her duty was to the clan, and she would choose their happiness over hers every single time.

"You make him happy. I can see it in the way he looks at you, and you look back. That in itself makes me grateful, Olivenose. You did what I couldn't, and I thank you for it." She bowed her head slightly, ears flicking back to press lightly against her head.

Olivenose

Relief washed over Olivenose like a cool, gentle wave. She was delighted her leader did not resent her for the past. "I'm so relieved," She said with joy, a wide smile on her face. "Oh, by the way... Blackheart and I were talking about names and we've decided to name a kit after you, Owlstar. If... that's alright with you. I wanted to be the one to ask for your permission."

While they spoke, Olivenose offered to clean Owlstar's fur. Her fur was somewhat dirty from a day of work, so she thought it would be a friendly gesture. "Sooo... off-topic, I know. Are you interested in anyone? Anyone at all? You may be busy and all, but there's always a little room for romance." Her intention wasn't to pry, so she hoped it wasn't coming off that way... she was just trying to help her catch her footing and maybe push her in the direction of finding someone.

Something in her heart flickered at the offer, and a warm smile suddenly came to the leader's face. When she spoke, there was a rolling purr to her tone. "I would be honored, Olivenose. I wish good health to both you and your kits." She hummed, dipping her head slightly with her words. At her next offer, yellow eyes gleamed with relief and gratitude, and she nodded, settling down on the ground with Olivenose so that they may groom each other's fur, an old clan tradition that promoted bonding between cats. It was about that time of day, where they would share tongues and discuss or gossip. Apparently, this is what Olivenose had in mind when she spoke.

Owlstar felt her ears grow hot, and she nearly laughed. Though she didn't, there was a hint of a snicker in her tone as she spoke in reply to the she-cat's question. "Does it look like I have time for romance?" She mused, smoothing down the fur of Olive's shoulder with a firm lick. "I'm solving clan issues, talking with my deputy, helping out Larkbeat, training Shadowpaw," She listed, with a roll of her luminous eyes. "The only free time I have is spent with Rainfur, the mousebrain. He's ridiculous but my best friend nonetheless."
