 "Okay, Fatpaw, let's try that move again... this time, put a little more effort into your pounce?" Jaysong gave an exasperated sigh, crouching down so her apprentice could pounce on her again. Fatpaw, was a pain. He complained about everything and put no effort into his training! She kinda felt he belonged in the Elder's den already. She shook her head, muscles bunched and waiting for his 'attack.' A basic pounce. How hard was that?

Fatpaw gives a lazy nod. He doesn’t understand why his mentor is making him practice basic pouncing. He can do that… if he puts some effort into it, anyways, which Fatpaw is incapable of doing at the moment. Jaysong had gotten him up earlier for this, and Fatpaw just wants to go back to sleep for a while.

Fatpaw effortlessly drops down into a crouch, his fluffed up tail swishing to one side to keep himself balanced, and springs at Jaysong. The apprentice doesn’t put as much effort as he could into the pounce, but he puts a bit more force behind it than his pitiful last attempt.

It was like watching him in slow motion. She was able to dodge with no hurry, probably because of her instinct, but mainly because of how much effort he was putting into it. But, she was trying to remain positive. She gave an encouraging smile. "Okay good! It'll do, let's work on your defense." She purred, sitting down and wrapping her tail around her paws. "Get into a defensive stance, please." She needed to work with him on that. She hadn't practice much defense with him because she was an offensive player... but, at this rate, he'd be defense all the time.

Fatpaw drops into a defensive stance, his pretty eyes seeming to focus a little bit. He doesn’t mind getting beat by his mentor, not like that’s avoidable, but Fatpaw would rather not get hurt. He’ll certainly try hard to not let that happen; that’s one way to motivate Fatpaw. His gaze narrows as he watches Jaysong’s movements, waiting to see what she will do.

Fatpaw even opens his mouth to ask to see if his stance is right; it had been a while since he used the stance, so it's more than possible that it is a bit off. However, Fatpaw closes his mouth as he realizes that questions will just delay them. He would rather get beat up by his mentor than delay his nap.

Jaysong perked her ears. A perfect stance. She gave a nod of approval, standing to circle the large tom, green eyes narrowed. "Good. Good." She spoke standing in front of him. She swiped twice at his face. He's supposed to jump back here and then lunge forward swiping his paws wildly. She braced herself for the impact of his blows, face unchaning.

Fatpaw does just that; he dodges out of the way before retaliating with a quick lunge and a few wild strikes towards his mentor before hopping away again to avoid any attack that Jay executes in response. Fat actually tries with this move; there isn't a ton of force behind his strikes, probably a bit less force than he could have mustered, but he isn't a large or very strong cat. His eyes stay on Jay the entire time, so not to be caught off guard. It isn't perfect, but Fatpaw tried.

His blows landed bluntly, but were still enough to make the small but lithe warrior stagger. She let off a purr, standing tall. "Good! Good! That was perfect, Fatpaw!" She praised him, eyes shining with pride. "I think you're ready to be taught a new move. Let's try a little move I learned fighting. I don't have a name for it, but what you do is run in circles around your opponent and stir up dust with her tail and paws. Like this!" She spun a tight circle, dragging her paws and tail, stirring up dust until she was invisible. She let it settle. "It'll hide you from your enemy. Try it on me!" She encouraged with a purr.

“So wait. Do I turn in a circle really fast to stir up dirt or do I run around you in a circle to stir up dirt?” Fatpaw asks, a drifting quality in his voice. He is legitimately asking that question, yet his voice makes it sound like he’s not totally invested. Which wouldn’t be out of character for Fatpaw. His tail sweeps back and forth, quickly stirring up dust around himself but he expends very little energy doing so. He tilts his head to the side like is this what you want? Or what do you want?

Jaysong, I am so sorry for this child. He is the most difficult apprentice.

Jaysong quickly realized she hadn't explained it very well. "Ah. You run in a circle around your opponent and stir up dust; like that!" She gestured to his tail. "Okay, let's try it now." She meowed. Olivenose had only been her apprentice for a moon or two after her old mentor died... she didn't have much experience in training.

Fatpaw nods; he thinks he gets it. He isn’t really trying that hard to listen or to understand, though so. The scrawny apprentice does what he does best (well, what he does second best- he is best at being lazy), be fast. He runs a quick circle around his mentor, dragging his tail on the ground to throw up more dust. After one quick circuit, he has a good dust screen up; the apprentice stops and takes a couple steps back as he waits for his mentor’s judgement.
