August Art Prompt: MEW-SICAL INSPIRATION
Trailer Time, Guys!
To say that reception for this was mixed would the understatement to end them all. People seem unable to believe their eyes. Some love and are excited for the movie to come out - other's promptly wished for someone to burn it with fire. But for anyone else who happens to be a theatre nerd like me, you know that this isn't the FIRST time we've had a video of people dressing up, dancing, singing, and pretending to be cats.I give you, the 1998's filmed live on stage version!
For those unfamiliar with the show, it is basically the story of a bunch of cats from all walks of life - feral strays, house pets, alley-dwellers (or kittypets, rogues, and warriors if you would) as they cavort under the light of the full moon and dictate their life stories: some are keen to help with the mousing and general housework, others literally magical, and all feel they are worthy of some sort of special gift from the kitty gods - the chance of being reborn to a new, loving life - nine lives, much?
This month's art challenge is simple: take one of your characters and humanize them in the style of one of the above styles: a human-cat hybrid, if you will. Keep in mind that they still have 'fur-like' bits - as well as articles of clothing that allow them to have some hint of personality. We want you to remember that when incorporating them with your design!
The magic of cats came from little bits of pieces in drawings of the face, and in design of the costumes, to give them personality and individuality - it was one of the first shows where even the CHORUS had individual characters, looks, and personalities - kind of like how each clan has different people and characters in them - almost too many to count sometimes!
Rules:
1. One entry per account - but the entries can include multiple characters if so desired.
2. The idea is for these to be bipedal cat forms; they still move like cats, still have tails and ears and whiskers - but with some human traits thrown in. Not neko's or cat-girls/boys (which are more human with cat characteristics like a tail and ears) - but if your cat suddenly found themselves able to stand on two feet instead of four, as well as some other human characteristics.
3. Have fun with it! The costumers and designers of these shows play with things like perspective, and adapting articles of clothing to make them appear like different breeds: For example, here we have a character known as Cassandra (a Siamese), who is slinky and thin and obviously different from our boy Rum Tum Tugger - who's wide 'Elvis' collar is meant to give him the impression of a mane coon.
Participation:
Each participant who makes the minimum amount will receive 500 feathers per entry.
