It seemed that kindred spirits had a way of finding each other and so, when all things were considered, was it really so surprising that Cricketpaw and Pebblekit seemed to have struck up a peculiar friendship? There were two oddities in the clan - the kit that spoke too little and the apprentice that spoke too much, both with odd habits and living in a world of their own. Yeah, it was no wonder that they'd quickly fallen into friendship.

Cricketpaw was almost a warrior now. That meant that he could be trusted to look after Pebblekit, right? He certainly thought so, though it was likely that others would disagree. After all, the apprentice was hardly known for being the most responsible cat in the word, was he? But he was foolhardy and persistent, and he didn't care what others thought.

"Hey! Pebblekit!" The apprentice half whispered, having snuck into the nursery while the queens were out grabbing something to eat. "Do you want to see something brilliant?" Cricketpaw planned on showing him the butterflies before they all vanished for leaf-bare. If Pebblekit had to wait moons to see them, well, that would just be a travesty, wouldn't it?

Cricketpaw's ears flicked excitedly, his whole body practically vibrating as he waited for his friend to agree to join him. This was going to be a brilliant adventure! Oh, it would be Pebblekit's first adventure too! Fantastic!

At first they'd just assumed he was quiet, shy, a soft kit who just hadn't really spoken yet, but when he opened his mouth and tried to speak, they knew something wasn't quite right. It wasn't like there was anything wrong with him, he was very small, and seemed to be caught up in his own little world, and he seemed unable to speak rather than unwilling, but aside from that he was just like any other kit, he played, he smiled, he snuggled up with his siblings and his mother in a monumental pile of warm fluff to sleep. He just couldn't speak.

His head popped up when he heard a voice whispering to him from the other side of the nursery, the entrance, and a new face greeted him, and he greeted the new face back with a bright smile as he got to his feet and kitten-waddled over. There was an angel soft gasp from the little tom as he listened to Cricket's offer, and he nodded, little tail quivering in excitement. It was a secret that he could never tell any of his littermates, and he liked it that way!

He didn't hesitated to push through the nest bedding to join the other cat, making careful sure not to let any trail from his fur to the entrance...That would give him away for sure! And then Momstar would come find him, and they would both get in trouble. But he couldn't pass up the chance to see something brilliant...Whatever that meant...So the risk was worth the payoff, this would be an adventure into the big, wide world outside, and he was more than ready to stand to meet the challenge.

He bumbled to Cricketpaw's side and looked up at him expectantly, eyes wide and round and seemingly saying 'I'm ready! Lets go!'

"Brilliant! Let's go then!" Cricketpaw replied with an excited hop from foot to foot. Oh, this was going to be great! He and Pebblekit, they were going to have such fun. But first - Cricketpaw needed to cover up their tracks.

He glanced around the nursey. Right. Who had seen them together? Ah! Milkkit! That little guy would be happy to lie for them, right?

"Oi, Milkkit." Cricketpaw said, getting the white kit's attention. "If anyone asks, you didn't see anything - okay?" Were Cricketpaw capable of thinking of his words before he said them, he would have realised that of course the blind kit didn't see anything. If he'd also looked back before scampering off, expecting Pebblekit to follow right after him, he would have also seen a sad expression on Milkkit's face at the reminder of his disability. Oh well. None of that registered in Cricketpaw's mind, and therefore he wasn't concerned about it.

Outside of the nursery, he quickly gathered Pebblekit up by his side. "Right. We have to be sneaky, okay? We'll get told off if someone spots us, and we don't want that, do we?"
