[ti]Open[/ti]A Chill in the Nursery

Even Mothstar was shivering in the current weather. The wind had suddenly picked up and snow had begun to fall from the sky and, as it had barely any protection from the elements, it had left the MothClan camp freezing. The clan could survive this, of course - they could survive anything - but the leader couldn't help but worry that there were members that might need a little help to get through it. There were kits in the nursery - newborn ones that would certainly need the extra warmth during this weather. As well as them, the older kits could most likely do with the protection too.

With that on his mind, the hairy leader made his way to the nursery. By this point his coat was saturated with melting snowflakes - the dripping fur flopping down and over his eyes. Under his coat he was still dry, though. It would be a while before he became completely soaked through.

"Give me the kits." Mothstar bluntly stated. His words sounded like an order but he knew that queens could be stubborn. If they didn't want to let him help, he wouldn't push too much. "I can keep them warm."

Boarkit had been eating less since the sickness had nearly claimed his life, prey was scarce, and if he had no hope of contributing anything to the clan...Did he really deserve to be protected and fed? He didn't think so. Elders had served the clan for a long time, they'd more than earned their meals, but he would never contribute, and this thought had sunken the kit into a depression, he didn't even really notice the cold aside from his shivering, but he'd grown too lethargic to really do much, it's not like it would matter if he starved or let the icy chill take him, right? He was nothing.

His ear flicked when he heard another cat approaching, recognizing the heavy steps to be his father and feeling a sinking dread. He'd let him down too, there was no way he could ever make the leader proud that way. He didn't move when he heard the order, and if the queens allowed the kits to nestle under the hairy leader's warmth, he would resist, he would just take up space, take a space that could be given to a kit that had a future. He curled his tail further around himself, resting it over his frozen nose as he pointedly didn't make eye contact with anyone.

Thankfully, the queens didn't seem to be having any major issues. The older kits were cuddled up in a large pile by Emberbrook - he tail draped over them protectively, unable to properly keep them all cuddled up by her anymore due to their size - and the younger were still small enough that Sweetbriar could keep them all nestled in her fur. Only poor Boarkit seemed left out. 

Despite rumours that had made their way around camp, Mothstar didn't hate his son now that he was blind. He was angry, yes, but not at Boarkit. His anger was directed at Cedarleap and the fact that she had blinded his son - and it was unlikely to fade any time soon. Was he disappointed in the kit's newfound disability? Yes, of course he was, but he didn't blame him for it. He just... He was taking time to adjust to the situation.

The leader dragged Boarkit closer to the pile of queens and kits by the scruff of his neck before settling down around him. His back faced the youngest litter - hopefully keeping their fragile bodies warm - while his fluffy tail wrapped itself around his son. "You're freezing, Boarkit." Mothstar grumbled in a small moment of tenderness. "Let me keep you warm."
