Introduction to Mothstar's Last Litter

Runningbright

The queen was laying outside of the nursery, he kits attempting to stumble around in the sunshine as their eyes began to open fully. The white and ginger mother watched with a small smile, surprised at how big they got so fast, and hoping they'd turn into lovely warriors some day. The warrior hadn't really seen herself as the mother type, never really seeing a family in her future, but as she gazed at her small kittens, she felt love swell in her chest although she also ached to be hunting again. Her kittens mewled at her feet as they batted at each other and she chuckled softly, resting her head on her paws.

Daffodilkit

Mewling many times in a row, the fluffy ginger she-cat toppled at her mothers back feet, batting at her brothers and attempting to give a ferocious growl. Doffidilkit fell onto her side, still batting at the air and squirming around like little kittens do.

Hailkit was from the litter before, only two moons older, so she was still living in the nursery when the newest litter had been born. It had been a strange night, but seeing the fruits of Runningbright's labour was something she was vaguely interested in. She knew that they were technically her half-siblings, but were they really her family? Or just more competitors? Regardless, she knew that weren't much of a threat now, if the constant mewling was anything to go by, so Hailkit took this chance to check out the potential competition. She was large, and looked even larger due to her fluff, but she was still a young cat and had that strong kitten curiosity. Hailkit cautiously stepped towards the new family, sniffing the mixture of familiar and unfamiliar scents. The comforting smell of milk was the most prominent, they were near the nursery after all. "What are their names?" She said, her yellow eyes currently on the ginger kit who appeared as fiery as her pelt suggested. The best names were all taken so she wasn't expecting anything amazing. The best name, the strongest name, a mother could give her kittens was either Stormkit or Hailkit, both already taken.

Stormkit was nibbling on some freshkill, no longer needing their mother's milk. Their mother had gone back to basic warrior duties, which Stormkit admired. She had the spirit of a warrior and heart of a mother, and Stormkit decided she wouldn't mind being like her mother when she got older. Runningbright was outside, warming her fur just outside the nursery, and noted her mother laying next to her, she had just gotten back from a patrol, and now it was her duty to watch her kits. Stormkit chuckled remembering their successful sneak out of camp adventure. Boy oh boy was their mother surprised to see them. She swiped her tongue around her muzzle as her eyes fell on a fluffy ginger she-kit she raised a brow, at least...THAT one had potential.


She yawned, standing up, trotting over to the queens giving the ginger she-kit a quick sniff. Her sister asked what their names were. Surely those kits of a leader had strong names. Her whiskers twitched slightly and her thoughts turned sour. Did her father not really care for one mate? They had so many half siblings Stormkit honestly stopped keeping track. She really didn't feel like any of these were her family. She didn't get a sibling vibe off of them. Her father was surely busy wasn't he? Her narrowed eyes widened when the kit fell over, she jumped, but her whiskers twitched with amusement as the kit kept batting at the air. She wondered if she and her sister acted this way. She shook the thought aside, surely not.... "What's this ones name...she seems strong. I bet you named her something like Lionkit, or Firekit right?" She mewed with a high pitched tone.

Houndkit

Houndkit lazed on his stomach, cuddling close to his mother as he had just recently opened his eyes. He was confused by everything, obviously, he knew the scents of his kin, though quite a few cats who weren't kin smelled kind of like him. As he spotted Daffodilkit, he slowly approached her and begun to playfully bat at her.

Heatherkit pawed at her mother, hoping to engage in some kind of play-fight with her. Having been one of the first to open her eyes, she was already exploring how she could move around. She flattened her ears at Daffodilkit's 'battle growl'. It was loud, but the already-big kit didn't mind too much. This meant she could play fight with her! Quickly, she crawled over to her, lifting each paw was such a struggle, but it would be worth it in the end. When she reached her sister, Heatherkit attempted to bite her ear with her little teeth. It probably wouldn't hurt, but that wasn't the intention anyway.

The slow, lazy purr of sleep quieted in the kit's throat as he blinked awake, shaking his head. He peered around either side of himself, and spotted a bunch of other kits- siblings, he remembered. His eyes had only been open for a few days, but he was quickly growing used to the others, no longer jumping with surprise when anyone moved or spoke loudly. He let out a surprised peep as Heatherkit ambled by him to play-fight with another little sibling, Daffodilkit. That... seemed like fun actually. The big kitten took wobbly steps, falling over often and constantly swayed by his baby fat, until he joined them and took a few tentative play swipes at his sisters.

Runningbright

As she keep a close eye on her kits playing, the queen looked to Stormkit and Hailkit, offering the kits a calm smile. She knew they were also Mothstar's kits, the litter before hers, but it didn't bother her in the least, she was glad that Mothclan would soon have more, strong warriors from all these kits. Sniffing at Heatherkit who was batting at her, she nudged the small kitten towards her siblings. "Their names?" Runningbright meowed, gazing at the bundles of fur she had produced. Eyes landing on Daffodilkit, who was heading straight towards Hailkit, she told the two older kits- "The ginger she-cat is Daffodilkit. The others are Heatherkit, Houndkit, Bumblekit, and Fuzzykit" giving a simple nod as she recounted her children's names. What lovely kittens.

Daffodilkit

Ignoring the bats and swats of her siblings, Daffodilkit began hurdling herself towards Hailkit. "Play!" The young ginger she-cat mewled to her half sibling, swatting at the other cats ear, slightly catching it with her tiny, sharp claws. Daffodilkit crouched down, her haunches wiggling vigorously as she batted at her again, giggling.

Heatherkit initiated another attack swat on Daffodilkit, barely any claws could be felt. But something wasn't right, her sister was leaving. Was she ignoring her? No, she wanted to play too! She stumbled over to Daffodilkit and Hailkit and began attacking the latter, predominantly through bites. Of course, the occasional pawing was still there. She swung her tail happily in the air. Like this, she almost looked like a small fluffy cloud. Hailkit was being attacked, and not just by anything, but by small fluffy clouds. The best kind of attack, obviously.

Fuzzykit woke up with a jerk, a little shudder running through his fluffy body in some mini post-sleep tremors. There were sounds all around him, and it took him a while to shake off the sleep haze and focus on what was going on. Were they playing? He identified his siblings, as well as some other kits. Yes, he would go play too! Ambling over in all his fluffy glory, little tail stub waving in the air, he followed his sisters towards Hailkit. But instead of swatting at her like the others, he promptly sat down ... right where the older kit's tail was.

A tiny growl rumbled in his throat as he clumsily turned around to follow his sisters. "W-wait! Play!" he mumbled in a sort of slurred voice, not used to speaking yet. Indignant at being left behind, he reached forward to grab onto Heatherkit's tail and bite it, but tumbled over as another kit entered his field of vision. I wanna play too! he cried internally, grabbing onto Fuzzykit's legs from where he was on the ground and haphazardly kicking his brother's side with his shaky hind legs. They didn't have much force, being so small and untrained, but he felt fierce doing it.
